| The Blue Ridge Brass Band is a group of amateur musicians, with a close association with the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. The band was born from the love of music, the mountains of North Carolina and the strong Celtic heritage that is pervasive in northwestern North Carolina in body and spirit. Our new CD has the following traditional pieces: Rose of Kelvingrove, Appalachian Folk Song, Dark Isle and Highland Cathedral. A couple of tunes have been masterfully arranged by our director Mr. James Laughridge: The Gael (Last of the Mohicans) and MacRae Meadow March. Mr Laughridge composed several of the pieces on the CD: Invention and Dance, The Blue Ridge Patriots Commemorative including Cowan's Ford, Morgan's March, Song of the Blue Ridge and Reflections. Listening to songs such as Dark Isle and Highland Cathedral cause dreamy visualizations of the fog rolling across the meadow of MacRae, gradually clearing, offering glimpses of the hills until the fog moves on revealing the inspiring peaks of Grandfather Mountain. |
