Blue Jay 2718 - Fearless
The adventure began on Friday, February 15, 2002 when I received an email about a "FREE BOAT" -- a old, wooden, long-neglected Blue Jay.
She was dirty, faded, cracked and had a rotten nose but that didn't stop me from quickly agreeing to adopt her with the help of my friend, George "Buddy" Hammond.
Our "optimistic" re-launch date was  the Fourth of July (2002)...  We missed that by a bit.  But on Saturday, May 15, 2004, Fearless was finally recommissioned into active duty!     No sooner had we completed the project than Buddy moved to Long Island and I moved to S. Carolina.  Fearless is still being actively sailed by her new owner, my dad, in Southern California.

Blue Jay History
Pictures:
The Blue Jay was designed by Sparkman & Stephens in 1947 as a smaller version of their popular Lightning design suitable for junior skippers.  The Blue Jay (nicknamed "Baby Lightning") included all the thrills of its big sister, including a spinaker, and was available in kit form for home construction.  Of course, the boat turned out to be a success with older folk as well; in fact, the first Blue Jay fleet in San Francisco Bay was helmed entirely by adults!
