What We’re About

The BMTC is a non-profit organization based in Lexington, Kentucky, that brings together athletes of all ages and abilities who are interested in multi-sport training or competition.  Through scheduled trainings sessions and group outings, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Introduce a different sport into your training program

Learn new skills and sharpen old ones

Share advice with less-experienced (but enthusiastic) athletes

Get to know potential training partners and teammates

Exchange training books, gear and other resources

Travel together to races and other sports events

Socialize with members who share similar goals, interests and obsessions

       Carbo-load and rehydrate (“eat and drink . . . a lot”)

What We Do

We enjoy all of the multiple sports disciplines you would expect, and a few you might not:

       Road & mountain biking

       Ice skating & sledding

       Paddling & swimming

       Hiking & camping

       Orienteering & ROGAINE

       Road & trail running

       Caving & canyoneering

       Climbing & rappelling

Group workouts focus on improving speed, technique and endurance in the disciplines basic to on and off-road triathlons, duathlons and adventure races.  During the week, members get together more informally for runs, rides, weight training, dinner, movies, Shakespeare in the Park . . . you get the idea.  Weekend outings in 2003 included camping at Mammoth Cave, an orienteering clinic in Cincinnati, a paddling clinic on the Obed River in Tennessee, and multiple trips to the Red River Gorge for cycling, night hiking, caving, rappelling, kayaking, and climbing.  This year, we attended the Bluegrass 10,000 Expo to spread the gospel of multi-sport to the masses, and our booth featured an awesome video created by our very own multi-talented John B. to promote the sport of adventure racing.  Click on the links to the left for reports and photos from races and other outings, as well as a short clip from the AR video John created.

You can find a calendar of upcoming events and a message board where we post information about club training sessions and other activities by registering with our Yahoo! Group. It's a free and relatively painless process, and the message board serves as our primary means of communication regarding club activities. When you register, you may want to select the "Daily Digest" option, which will deliver a single e-mail to you each day listing all of the messages posted in the previous 24 hours.

What’s going on

The BMTC is pleased to be a part of bringing "The Fig" back to the Gorge for 2004. The fantastic crew of volunteers was in the top three of every participant's list of favorite things from last year's race. We're hoping to make the top three again this year. If you're available and willing to help out a few hours on Friday or Saturday, e-mail or call Stephanie at (859)389-7587. Here's what’s going on:

True North Outfitters announces the return of the Red River Gorge American Classic 12-hour Adventure Race to the Daniel Boone National Forest in southeastern Kentucky. Yeah, it’s a mouthful. That’s why we just call it "The Fig II," after legendary US Forest Ranger Don Fig. This year's event will take place Saturday, November 6, 2004, and will feature more of the awesome geological formations and spectacular scenery that has earned the area its status as a "National Natural Landmark."  Racers will face a challenging ROGAINE-style orienteering course, followed by a paddle down the “National Wild and Scenic” Red River, finishing with a mountain biking leg that will take them down Spaas Creek and through the historic 900’ Nada Tunnel.  With the help of the "Trango Team," we'll be setting up anchors and fixed ropes along the course that will allow racers to climb the crags and access the views for which the Red is famous.
