Vampire: The Masquerade
I started playing Vampire before they started creating and editing all those supplements. I have made my ideas on the game before it was shaped like it is today and I must say that there are many things on which I was DISAPPOINTED.
The game was aimed at being a dark and brilliant concoction of Politics, Intrigue and the "Love and Lust" (personnified by the Kiss or the Embrace). Just have a look at the clans toady and you will notice how many of them are just dumbless warriors, with no spirits, no wits, no interrogations. For having met a lot of players and storytellers, I can tell you that many (to many) just play monster hunting or diablery frenzy.
To me the game should be closer to the movie "interview with the vampire". It should have Lestat's sensuality and monstrueousness, Louis's questioning, Armand's love, Claudia's inner torture. These are the feelings I try to convey in my games.
Due to the many changes in the Vampire saff, the game got perverted. Today instead of going further  in time they just keep explaining the past and try to make everything make sense though adding their own touch to the game (cf. Dark ages, Exalted). Can you remind me when the gehenna book was supposed to come out and end the game? Something like 1998, if I remember well.
The game follows its own line, the players can only stick to it, they are not leading the game. Here, the players are no longer the heroes and there is no opportunity for them to mess with white wolf's world!
I would be glad to hear from other people's opinion whatever their opinion on the game is. And if they are interesting enough, I would post them below!
