HHH
Weight: 246 lbs
From: Waterbury, Connecticut
Birthday: July 27, 1969
HHH first entered the WWF as a snobby rich American named Hunter Hearst Helmsley, which was pretty much a copy of a character he'd played in WCW: a snobby rich Frenchman named Jean-Paul Levesque. As the snobby American, HHH became Intercontinental champion a few times, and started his ever-present feud with The Rock, but on February 16, 1997 he made probably the best career move ever.
On February 16, HHH introduced his new manager/bodyguard, Chyna. Chyna is the greatest woman ever to appear on the WWF, and everyone loves her for it.
In the summer of 1997, HHH and Chyna teamed up to form Degeneration X with
Shawn Michaels, HHH's real life friend.
On December 22, 1997, Shawn chose HHH to challenge him for the
European Championship. He then lay in the middle of the ring and let Hunter pin him
for his first WWF championship. The three superstars, also known as the "Triple
Threat" poked fun at every wrestler other than themselves, and were generally
disliked by Vince McMahon. Shawn was the leader of the group up until March 30,
1998, just after Wrestlemania. Then, Hunter proclaimed himself the new leader, and
kicked Shawn out of the group. Shawn then sort of went of vacation, "due to
injury."
As the new leader, HHH decided that two members weren't enough. In one night, he introduced X-Pac, and convinced the New Age Outlaws to join the group.
The new DX was in a constant feud with "The Nation," allowing for a continuation of HHH's ever-present feud with the Rock (member of the Nation). Sometimes they even dressed up as their enemies.
During the second DX era, HHH became the Intercontinental champion. However, he was stripped of the title because of injuries on October 11, 1998. While he was injured, some of the DX members started becoming disgruntled.
DX managed to stay together for a while, though, and they
played many tricks on the Nation, who eventually became known as the Corporation or Team
Corporate. Then, on January 25, 1999, HHH had an "I Quit" match with the
Rock. Team Corporate came out with Chyna and threatened to have Kane chokeslam her if HHH
didn't give up. HHH obediently uttered the words "I Quit," only to have
Chyna deliver a low blow to him shortly after when his back was turned. Chyna and
Kane teamed up for a few months, feuding with HHH and DX. Then, at Wrestlemania
Chyna hit the Big Red Machine over the had with a chair during a fight between him and
Hunter. Hunter then embraced his former partner and joined Team Corporate.
Less than two months after joining the Corporation, HHH managed to throw the Rock out of it. Then, the Corporation teamed up with Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness to form the Corporate Ministry. Pretty soon, they turned on Vince and started to help Shane McMahon.
After leaving Undertaker's ministry, HHH began to do rather well on his own (though still with Chyna, of course.) He was in a WWF championship match at Summerslam 1999 against Mankind and Steve Austin. Although Mankind won that match, HHH managed to get it from him the day after at Raw.
During the ensuing title feud with Vince McMahon, along with
the Rock (Steve Austin went on vacation due to HHH injuring him at Summerslam) Chyna sort
of disappeared from his side. She began a feud with Jeff Jarrett over the
Intercontinental Championship, and started coming out by herself. Then, no one
mentioned that they had ever been partners for quite a while.
Then on October 25, 1999, DX was recreated. Just before Survivor Series, the New Age Outlaws had a match against the Rock and Steve Austin, where HHH and X-Pac interfered. They wrought havoc upon the WWF for a while, including an incident when they seemingly lured Steve Austin into a garage where he was hit by a car (though it was later proved that it wasn't them.)
The best development in HHH's story, though,
started on November 29th, 1999.
While DX was wreaking havoc on Vince, he decided to play
around with his children a bit too. Stephanie McMahon was scheduled for the
"happiest day of her life" when she was to marry Test. Anyone who was not
a member of the family or invited was not allowed to attend, on threat of losing their
jobs. Hence, when HHH came out to destroy the wedding, he announced that he was a
member of the family. He'd taken an unconscious Stephanie to a chapel and married
her the night before.
HHH agreed to sign the divorce papers only if he got to fight Vince McMahon at the next Pay-Per-View, and Vince won. However, during the fight Stephanie got involved, and slapped her father across the face. HHH won, and the next day Stephanie announced that she'd always liked HHH, and hated her father.
After Vince and Shane left one night in disgust, Stephanie and Hunter began the McMahon-Helmsley Era. This era was characterized by lots of fights that made very little sense, as well as the famous career ending "Pink Slip on a Pole" match, between the Rock and Mankind. It took about three months, but eventually HHH and Stephanie did manage to kick Mankind out of the WWF.
Together with Stephanie, and X-Pac's new girlfriend Tori, they created the newest version of DX. Sadly, they kicked Mr. Ass out after Wrestlemania, and he didn't return for a while.
There was even a time when the McMahon-Helmsley Era dominated physically as well as powerfully. With the help of DX, Stephanie became the women's champion while HHH was the World Champion. Sadly, that couldn't last long, as HHH eventually lost his belt in his ever-present feud with the Rock.
After losing his championship belt to the Rock, HHH became
free to have some more interesting feuds for Stephanie's honor. First, he had to
defend her from Chris Jericho, who called her a bottom-feeding trash-bag hoe, along with
various other adjectives that I can't recall. That feud was short-lived, though, as
Jericho is obviously a second tier wrestler and HHH is first tier. It couldn't last,
no matter how great it was.
It was around this time that the McMahon-Helmsley Era completely ended. It hadn't been the same after Vince and Shane returned before Wrestlemania, but Stephanie and HHH had still wielded some power. Then, however, Mick Foley returned to the WWF as the Commissioner, and stole all power in the federation.
He soon launched into another feud over Stephanie,
in which Stephanie gets a little too close to Kurt Angle. Sadly, it looks entirely possible that their marriage will dissolve due to Kurt, though I still think it's wrong because Kurt wreaks of second tier.
This feud has, however created an interesting plot twist, in that HHH has become the good guy. Because of this, he has even set aside his ever-present feud with the Rock to team up with him occasionally. After all, they already have matching outfits.
Miscellaneous HHH commentary
HHH once did a commercial where he lifted weights and looked rather glazed. The commercial was for some product that was supposed to help shape your body. Never in the commercial did it claim that HHH ever used it, it just showed pictures of him lifting weights. This is Kendra's favorite picture of him, though I prefer it when he doesn't look like he's being cooked in an oven.
He's also had various appearances on television shows, showing that he actually is a relatively good actor, as opposed to some wrestlers (namely the McMahons). Here he is on Conan O'Brian discussing how fun it is to be the bad guy. He started out wearing a jacket, wasn't it nice of him to remove it?
He was definitely the best part of the Saturday Night Live episode when the Rock hosted (although I did find it interesting that Mick Foley was there when he wasn't wrestling). By far the greatest moment, though, was at the end when everyone was standing around like they always do, he put the AC/DC guy on is shoulders and let him hold his belt.
My favorite TV moment with HHH was when he guest starred on the Drew Carey Show. He played a wrestler called "The Disciplinarian," and agreed to promote Drew's company "Buzz Beer" for him. Sadly, he got drunk, did something stupid and lost a match, for which he blamed the Beer. It was great for business, though.
One thing that struck me while watching the Drew Carey episode was how great his hair looked back then. Now he waters it down and frequently ties it back in stupid ponytails, not allowing you to see how great it is.
Believe it or not, HHH once won an award for his hair. At the 1997
Slammy Awards, he won the "Best Hair Day" award. He beat Bret Hart, Steve
Austin, Shawn Michaels and Mankind. His acceptance speech included "Look at
it...wish you had it...and eat your hearts out".
Whereas I think his hair is his most striking feature, some people disagree. Vince McMahon once said that he was known for his "Protruding Probuscus," a.k.a.: nose.
Speaking of McMahons, aren't he and Stephanie cute? I wonder if she would approve of the tatoo he says he will eventually get. It will be on his stomach with an arrow saying "Down Here!"

For that
matter, I wonder if Chyna would approve. I'm pretty sure he was hanging out with her
when he said that. I say "hanging out" with her because I was never really
sure if they were a couple. They did share a dressing room, and she used stupid
terms of endearment sometimes, but they almost never touched each other. It wasn't
until I found a picture of them kissing that I decided they must have been dating.
Speaking of DX members, am I the only person who realizes that Shawn Michaels is the biggest dork in the Universe? Don't get me wrong. I like Shawn a lot, but he's a dork. He dresses up in stupid outfits, he does stupid dances, what more do you need. I'm glad that his nature didn't rub off on HHH.
Actually, HHH is one of the best dressers in the WWF. His wrestling outfit is about as skimpy as you can get (hot pants, knee and elbow pads and boots), and he's pretty good about being shirtless most of the time he's not wrestling. It's common to see him in the back wearing only sweatpants, and when he does wear a shirt he frequently takes it off to show how angry he is. Sometimes he even tears his own shirt off, which I think many more wrestlers should do.
However, he does quite frequently have to wear merchandise in order to boost sales. Even when this happens, though, it's better than most wrestlers. His "basketball" jersey may be the best wrestling shirt I've ever seen.
Sometimes he'll even do something incredibly cool, like wearing the merchandise of his girlfriend instead of her wearing his. After all, he did once say that the luckiest thing that ever happened to him was meeting Chyna. Why not show that by having her name written across his chest?
One problem he does have, though, is that he almost always has stupid facial hair. Sadly, this is the case with most other cute wrestlers too.
Another problem he had was that he wasn't always as well respected as he is now. When he started working in the WCW under the name "Terra Ryzin'," the graphics crew didn't care enough about him to learn how to spell the name. They spelled it differently every week.
That did finally stop, though, because he changed his name to Jean-Paul Levesque. He once said that the stupidest thing anyone's ever said to him was "We want you to be a frenchman." It would be pretty hard to change your country of origin.
By the way, am I the only person who's noticed that HHH and the Rock dress alike? Maybe that's why they're locked in an ever-present feud.
