BIO

C.J. MacLeod,
"THE POWERFOOL" Writer/Artist
powerfool@excite.com www.geocities.com/blackrubytoolbox

C.J. MacLeod studied fine art and philosophy. She began a career as an advertising designer in California and went on to become an Art Director in print and TV in Toronto, Canada. Ten years into it, she left to be a painter and a “real” writer. While working day jobs, she painted mornings, nights and weekends. MacLeod has taught writing, design, drawing and painting. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, shows and venues in Canada and the U.S. Collectors of MacLeod’s work range from Alaska to Michigan, New Jersey to California. She moved to Northern New Mexico in 1998. C.J. did six years of plein air painting in Taos prior to moving to Albuquerque. She has recently finished a series of intense still lifes, The Goddesses of the Yellow Wallpaper.
The Black Ruby Toolbox News is her creativity “Zine” about how to mend your life by finding the courage to create. The BRT Zine is sent out six or more times a year via snail mail to subscribers nationally. (Send your snail address for a sample copy of the BRT Zine.) MacLeod has had pieces published in newspapers, magazines and she published a novel, The Hippie Chronicles. She has studied writing with Natalie Goldberg and conducted her own Black Ruby Toolbox writing group in Taos. She makes crazy wisdom embroidered samplers and art quilts.

Over the past two decades, C.J. has delved extensively
into such questions as:
  • How can I simplify my life?
  • Are all these problems resolvable?
  • If health is feeling good most of the time, is this an achievable goal?
  • How can I be real in this world?
  • Is it possible to have both human success and material success?
  • How can I benefit others?
She says, “Great Spirit Mystery, give me strength. Teach me to love.”

C.J. is a former advertising art director and copywriter. It is only
since she moved to Taos that she set a positive intention to
make a living as a writer/artist and to have fun doing it.

Her work can be seen in Northern New Mexico at The Big Sun Gallery (505-758-3100),
