We are the George Observatory Amateur Research Teams or GO ART for short. The teams all have one passion in common...astronomy. They work from the HMNS George Observatory, which is satellite facility of the Houston Museum of Natural Science and is located in Brazos Bend State Park about forty miles southwest of Houston. There are three domes at the George Observatory-The East Dome, The Research Dome and the West Dome-which house three different telescopes.
The East Dome has an 18” fork mounted Newtonian telescope and an AP-8. Thanks to a grant from the Zilkhas’ it has allowed the George Observatory to purchase more equipment for research. The dome is operated by FBAC or the Fort Bend Astronomy Club.
The Research Dome houses a 36” Ritchey Cretian Cassegrain telescope. It is one of the largest scopes open regularly for the public to view through. The equipment that is used in here is an AP-8, DFM Filter Wheel with photometric filters and an SBIG STV Guider that is used on the 6” f/15 refractor.
The West Dome has a Schmidt cassegrain telescope and a Coronado Optics used for solar observing and the other a CompuStar 14. The Solar Scope is equipped with an H-Alpha filtering system.
Our goal as GO ART is to search out the universe and expand our knowledge in the world of astronomy...
