Our family migrated from Rockingham County North Carolina to Scott County Virginia prior to 1877.
I wish to locate the parents of John William Carter. They were named James & Parthenia although
James was called "Buford" by his children. It has been told that James "Buford" died in the Civil War.
His son, John William, was supposed to have fought in his place and returned to their home
in Madison, NC after the war to find their home burned to the ground.
