A Blessing In Disguise
After a lot of hard work recently getting the new venues sorted we have also discovered that because of the way we have managed the club and kept our required paperwork and training up to date, We have completed our association audit with flying colours. We have also enrolled on the associations excellence award which runs in conjunction with the Cobra Quality Club Mark which we already hold.
This a a star based system with stars being awarded in a similar way to the hotel and leisure services.
I am confident that once settled into our new venues we as a club can achieve ALL 5 stars.

Travelling over to Ray Bell's Dojo in Burnley today I knew I was in for a hard time. I was if I'm honest, a little nervous as it has been a very long time since I had to push myself but hey as the saying goes "in for a penny, in for a pound."
Now I could go on about this technique and that technique but lets just say the bruises, rubs  and scratches on every part of my body will tell a story for a long time to come.
The seminar lasted three and a half hours with us grafting from start to finish. By the end of the grading I was sore aching and feeling sorry for myself as a knee problem had meant I had to sit out of the ground and pound section and a burn out which involved going down to the ground However I used this opportunity to burn myself out on one of Ray's Bob's hobbling away by the end..

Finally we got into some light sparring well 10 one minute rounds to be exact but I pushed and pushed until my last fight I had nothing left to give apart from heart and a well grounded guard. I was put working with one of Gordon's young fighters this lad to Gordon's credit  was as fit as a fiddle and he punched and kicked ten types of muck out of me It took all my strength just to keep my hands up and take this relentless pounding with the attempt to get the legs pushing forwards with an attack of my own
( old age started to show when I kept falling short of the target, The legs just had nothing left to give, but just to stand there toe to toe with such a young fit talented fighter and still be standing was a brilliant feeling.

Walking into the line to bow of at the end I was happy just to reflect on the experience knowing I will feel it tomorrow.

It was at this point that Gordon Surprised me by awarding me with my 2nd Dan As usual I felt I did not earn it but Ray and Gordon where not in agreeance with  my sentiment.

Many thanks to Gordon and his guys who came down from Scotland Thank you a great day, and a special thank you to Ray for letting us use your Dojo .

Gordon has offered to put on a seminar for Freespirit Martial Arts lets hope we get enough students interested in this.

A Brilliant day.

On Friday 21st November 2008, the Greater Manchester Police Karate Team are organising and taking part in a charity Martial Arts Marathon. The event will start at 8am on the Friday and run through to 8pm on Saturday 22nd November,

The charity the team is trying to raise money for is Clic Sargant (charity reference 1107328), which is a charity for children who have been diagnosed with cancer. In addition to this, they will be trying to break the current Guinness World Record for continuous training in martial arts.

The kicking and flexibiity course, scheduled for Saturday 22nd November, will be now be taught at this event along with a 3 hour locking course.

As all our students will know we have had to make the move to new venues
I would like to thank those students who have followed us.

It's going to be a hard slog, but I have used this time to develop new ideas and teaching practices, which I know will benefit the students.

We have just taken on our first new student and we are looking forwards to the challenges ahead.
Following the recent moves it is nice to see us getting some new students through the doors.
