28/11/2008 MOUNTAIN U-16 GIRLS FINISH 5TH IN SUPER Y LEAGUE FINALS
"Our path to the finals came down to the last 3 minutes of our first match and one goal," Goddard lamented after playing in the 4th place consolation match against Washington Freedom. That match ended in a 2-2 tie and with no extra time or penalty kicks both teams were considered 5th best in the league. None the less the season proved to be a huge success as many players have been scouted by university and college teams from both Canada and the US. After a slow start (a loss against Coastal WFC), the Mountain U-16 Girls team, under the guidance of coach Goddard, won 9 straight including two come from behind wins aginst Yakima and arch rivals Coastal WFC to win the Northwest Division. The U-16 girls team also had many players selected to the Super Y League ODP divisional team and the Whitecaps U-16 Select team. Mountain WFC, established in 2007, won its first Super Y League title when the U-16 boys team won their match 2-0. You can go to www.mountainwfc.ca for more information.

GODDARD RELEASED FROM THE WHITECAPS..AGAIN
Richard Goddard was released from the Vancouver Whitecaps just before the roster freeze and trade deadline. Goddard was asked to return to the Whitecaps after their starting goalkeeper Jay Nolly was hurt during a practice session. "I enjoyed every minute being there. There was no pressure to perform except the pressure I put myself under (to improve)." It may have been under unfortunate circumstances he may have been released though. News sources have it that the players the Whitecaps were planning to bring in were 'cup-tied' and could not play for the Whitecaps. Tyler Baldock, Goddard's former teammate, has been signed for the remainder of the season.
