Brief Synopsis

MAnmohan Desai's all-star adventure-comedy movie has Bachchan playing cop and Khanna playing street rascal and both finding their friendship strained on opposite sides of the law. With diverging views on crime control, they also get tangled with two sisters who moonlight as pickpockets.

An encounter between the bandit Mangal Singh(Amjad Khan) and Police Officer Shamsher Singh(Shammi Kapoor) ended with the arrest of Mangal Singh. Mangal Singh's wife delivered a baby boy and then breathed her last. Police Officer Shamsher Singh brought the new born home. A suggestion of handing the new born to an orphanage disturbed his emotions as he had gone through the miseries of being brought up there. Shamsher Singh's wife decided to take over the upbringing of the child alongwith her won son Kishen, the new arrival was named Amit. Mangal Singh was informed as per the wish of his late wife that both she and her son were dead. Mangal Singh nursed the fire of vengeance for fourteen long years in the prison walls, as he was set free his brother Devsing informed him that his son was alive in the household of Shamsher Singh. Mangal Singh tutored his wishes to Kishen(Vinod Khanna) whom he thought was his son. Kishen and Mangal Singh decided upon the downfall of Shamsher's family.

Time lapsed and Mangal Singh and Kishen joined the underworld under Supremo. Amit(Bachchan) grew upto be a most promising Police Officer of the country. Neetu(Neetu Singh) and her sister Shabbu(Shabana Azmi) lived their lives on witts, their entanglement with Amit and Kishen led to a happy romance. Then one day Neetu discovered that Mangal Singh was the killer of her father, she planned to murder Mangal Sing with Shabbu's help. Amit was entrusted the job of winding up Supremo and his underworld, in an attempt to save Kishen, Amit lost his eye-sight. Amit one day learnt that he was only an adopted boy in the house, the real son was Kishen, but then he also supspected Kishen of being a close hand of the Supremo, torn between family emotions Amit decided to return his file incomplete. Shamsher Singh was a duty bound office, everything in the world came next to his duty. He refused to accept Amit's file. At the risk of their lives Amit and Shamsher Singh decided to expose the Supremo and bring them to task. A battle between the good and the evil began, a wild chapter in action was created, no amount of emotions could hold back Amit, Kishen realised his misunderstanding that he was the son of Mangal Singh, he joined hand with Amit and thus put an end to the world of Supremo.
