BIEWER YORKIE ASSOCIATION
Home of the Belted Yorkies
Welcome to the home of the Biewer Yorkie Association better known as the BYA.  The Biewer Yorkie
Association was formed in 2003 to promote the Biewer Yorkie, to introduce it into the United States as a breed
unto  itself, to set an American breed standard for the breed, to establish a foundation registry and database,
to organize dog shows for the Biewer Yorkie Breed, to educate others as to just what a Biewer Yorkie
is both in development and the need for bloodline diversity to see that the breed stays viable throughout the years
and to document the history behind this magnificent little breed of dog.
The BYA was formed as an independent American Breed Club with no ties to the German Clubs or registries.
It's purpose was and is to establish an American based Club, Registry, Breed Standard and database independent of
any other indemnity.    The BYA has no association with any other Breed Club or Registry thus has no quarrel with
or obligations to such.  The founding breeders of BYA saw this as a necessity as many Biewers were surfacing
plagued with health issues that developed from such close inbreeding and line breeding of the limited number of
founding German bloodlines.  Keep in mind that ALL of the German Biewers came out of a single pair of Yorkshire
Terriers so there was and is no doubt that if the trend continues with no dilution of the gene pool that the breed will
continue to suffer the effects of inherited health issues, including the fatal 'Liver Shunt' that is known to be a major
  concern in the Biewer Yorkie.

The BYA was the first Biewer Breed Club and Registry established in the United States.  The BYA held the

first show for the Biewer Yorkie on United States soil in May 2003.  The BYA issued the first set of BYA registered
papers on May 15, 2004 backed by the American Canine Registry to an established American Biewer breeder by the
name of Nancy Anderson who also is accredited as being the driving force behind the Biewer Yorkie being brought to
the American eye.  Prior to May 2004 the ACR issued Biewer Yorkie registration papers with the ACR header.

Biewer Breeder numbers should be on the increase and we would like to once again remind everybody that it is crucial that you sell to only reputable breeders that will help us in our goal of producing QUALITY & HEALTHY Biewer Yorkies.

BYA and our members have once again made the record books for having the 1st known Biewer Show ever in the United States. The BYA is the 1st Biewer Breed Club formed in the United States, is the 1st Biewer Club to form an American Breed Standard for the Biewer and the 1st Biewer Club to be associated with a registry (American Canine Registry) in the United States that recognizes and registers the Biewer Yorkie.  BYA is also the first American Breed Club/Registry to issue papers to both a German bred/born/imported and American bred/born Biewer Yorkie.

WORTH REPEATING
BYA's registration policies and goals are set so as to establish a colony of Biewers in the United States by
which to produce healthy Biewers which aren't so inbreed as to be certain to have health problems as some of
the German Biewer Bloodlines are now experiencing.

ADVISORY - WARNING

Don't be fooled into believing that Biewers are not Yorkshire Terriers. ALL of the German Biewers originated from Registered YORKSHIRE Terriers of what is considered normal color and pattern for the Yorkshire Terrier. Please see our PEDIGREE page - Proof is in the pudding so we have provided the needed information for you so that you may be more informed and NOT led to believe those things that are untrue.
BYA and ACR also highly discourage and consider it unethical to advertise or refer to the Biewer as either Rare or of Teacup status. Biewers are NOT rare and are readily available to those who can afford them thus making them far from rare. Teacup is also NOT a standard size in ANY registry thus calling one teacup is of the highest unethical manner. Biewers are 5-12 pounds in size. There are NO other specified size categories in ANY registry.
