Plot: An ex-con and bio-chemist lead a group of Navy SEALs to disarm a group of renegade Marine commandos who have seized a stockpile of chemical weapons and taken over Alcatraz with 81 tourists as hostages. The Marines are lead by a highly-decorated Brigadier General who demands $100 million to be paid in ransom, as restitution to families of soldiers who died in covert operations under him around the world.

- Dedicated to producer Don Simpson who died during production.
- Producers built a cabin for Sean Connery on Alcatraz as he didn't
want to travel from the mainland to the island every day.
Goofs:
- The windshield of the Humvee after smashing through the water bottle
truck.
- The windshield of the Ferrari after crashing into the parking meters.
- When the Humvee crashes into the meter-maid vehicle, it skids and
goes sideways. In the next shot, it is still pointed straight down the
street.
- The first lever that Mason flicks from his cell resets itself before
he activates the second one.
- The plane which rolls out of the hanger is a two seater F/A-18 Hornet,
yet all aircraft in the flight squadron are single seaters.
- At the end of the movie Mason says its been a long time since he's
thanked anyone for anything. However, the day before he thanked Goodspeed
for not embarrassing him in front of his daughter.
