The Disaster's Edge Environmental Education Center was built in 1995 at the 1889 Park with the generous help of Cambria Cogen Company and Air Products and Chemicals Inc., as well as numerous local businesses. The 1889 Park is maintained by the Adams - Croyle Townships Recreation Commission at the site of Lake Conemaugh, which on May 31, 1889 broke, resulting in the infamous Johstown Flood.
