Background
CJ was placed in a home by breeder Gemz Cockers on the evening of July 23, just 12 hours
later he got away
from the new owners young daughter with a flexi lead attached. The breeder,
new owner and friends are trying to help
find him. He is a full bred Cocker Spaniel black male and only 9 months old. If you know
anything about this please call.
Substantial Reward leading to the safe return of CJ
update Friday 7/25/03- areas have been searched for two days but no sign of CJ. Put out food, water and clothing if CJ is in the area. Put up flyers and passed them out to people and homes and business in the area. Called shelters, contacted rescue in Indiana, called vets in Mishawaka and South Bend and left contact information with them. Add for lost and found section in the South Bend paper comes out tomorrow.
update Saturday 7/26/2003 (day 3)-
I was
just called and told that a lady who saw him almost immediately after he was
missing, as he was in that first block by the corn field and a man driving a
truck had stopped and was trying to get him. I believe an adult male could
catch a tired puppy dragging a flexi lead which had a 40 ft lead. That truck
was headed east away from Mishawaka and South Bend, Oceola and Elkhart are
east Elkhart has a different paper I think which means today's add isn't in
that paper, it is in the South Bend paper. Passed out more flyers on missing
puppy. CockerFriends group wrote local TV stations and local
newspaper to ask them to do a human interest story on this. Please send an email
to
bmoor@sbtinfo.com and
SBTNews@sbtinfo.com for the newspaper
in South Bend asking them to do the same. The TV stations are

update Sunday 7/27/2003 (day 4)-Passed out flyers to stores and business up the entire length of 12th street in Mishawaka. Also in Oceola. No leads today. Plan tomorrow is if it is not storming like it is today, Laura is going to go out to the intersection at 7 am with a sign as this man was traveling the road at that time on Thursday morning, perhaps on his way to or from work. Getting letters ready to go to area vets with a more detailed description of CJ. Teenage neighbor daughter is going to do pet groomers in the area but feel that this is not as urgent as they will not take him for grooming for sometime as he was just groomed. Gloria is working on a flyer to fax to business around that are further from that area. Dianne and Jan are working on raising money for his reward or if we need to buy advertising. Barbara is putting his missing webpage on lost and found sites and monitoring them for found dogs. Perhaps the person is a computer person he might post there or someone will see it that knows he has CJ. Kitty, and Trish are communicating with CJ. They say he is in a safe place with a family and being cared for. Wanda suggested that since dogs are personal property in Indiana theft charges could be brought. Trying to trace the phone number of the person that called in the tip yesterday so Tricia can get more details. Please keep the prayers coming maybe with all the flyers that have gone out someone will call with another lead and bring this sweetie home to his family soon. Thank you to everyone, that has helped to bring this baby closer to coming home.
Wrote Oprah asking if she would do a story on CJ and CockerFriends here is the link to her show for suggestions. We want your show ideas! Oprah has two Cocker Spaniels named Sophie and Solomon and I know she loves them dearly and would understand the pain of loosing one of them.
You can fax Kelly and Regis show at Fax Number: (800) 330-1106. Cathy said they just did a spot on the missing dog of Ozzie Ozbourne
update Monday 7/28/2003 (day 5) Laura went out to the intersection this morning with big signs, real estate size signs her husband made up so there is no way they can miss it. There is a 4 way stop there. Also handed out some more flyers but did run into some people that would not talk to them or even take the flyers. However on the bright side some people are now saying they have heard about CJ missing and that means they are getting the message out there which is so important. Tricia and Laura are heading out again tomorrow morning to the intersection. The add in the Elkhart truth paper goes in tomorrow.
about 7PM Monday night Tricia got a call from someone who spotted CJ tangled and caught near a fence, they must have seen the flyers. Thank you for calling about this Cocker, we at CockerFriends care a lot about him and Tricia and are so grateful to you. They were afraid he would bite them so they didn't get him out of there so Tricia told them he was just a puppy and he wouldn't bite so they did get him. In the 30 minutes it took her to drive there they had fed him and gave him water. Thank God for these people and that he appears to be in pretty good shape considering. He has a temperature of 103 so may need some antibiotics and fluids. He is being seen by the vet now. We are all so happy and thankful that Tricia has her baby back. We can't Thank you enough for all your prayers, your ideas, work to help this baby find his way back home again. My prayers are for all those who are still missing their furkids that you too will hold them once again. Don't ever give up!!! God Bless you
A guy called about 7 pm tonight and said there was a black dog that looked to
be about 8 months old with a teal collar all wound up in a flexilead stuck in
his fence and brush within a mile of the mishap One of his kids saw him in
the fence beside their house The man had seen a poster or sign and went back
to get the number and called me I could hear the kid in the background saying
" its him daddy its the puppy"
It was CJ and he is OK He was so wound up in the lead he couldn't move They
cut him free while I drove there and gave him water and food (the food gave
him diarrhea but they were trying to help) I took him to the vet at 9 pm
and he said to expect diarrhea for a few days but his hydration was not bad and
no sign of injury. heart rate is fine. lungs clear. no abd pain.
A lot of people were doing everything they could to help for which I am deeply
grateful.
Words can't really convey how much I appreciate everyone's efforts.
Barbara Cotters and Laura Figg were extremely helpful and supportive.
Greg, Mary Sue and their daughter Amber (the owners of CJ's littermate
Ebony) by helping with the search and support and willingness to help out.
Greg searched the rough terrain while Mary Sue, and Amber and Laura searched,
called, and handed out flyers in the subdivisions and edge of the road and
fields. Thanks to my unit director Diane for being so understanding and let me
be
off Saturday so I could spend the day searching and passing out flyers I know
it short staffed us but I just had to try to find him. She recently had lost
her Golden and got him back.
Suggestions and advise on how to find him came in from many people Linda,
Jan, Dianne, Cathy, Kim, Barb, Diana and on and on....my brain is too fried to
remember everyone right now. Barb tried to get the media involved..its a shame
pets in trouble don't rate any coverage at all.
Resourceful Cockerfriends worked on every angle to secure a safe recovery.
CJ's webpage, Polly offering to paint portraits to get donations for a reward
fund and many people who were willing to donate for a reward fund Mona (my
neighbor) addressed envelopes for me to send flyers to all the vets in this
region
which I did today.
Janet and her kids did put a sign at the intersection and Laura worked the
intersection this am and placed another sign The road crews mowed today and
she convinced them to leave the signs which fortunately they did Because I
think that is what the guy saw today I think that is what he meant when he
said
he saw the posters I didn't get everything he said as I was a tad
emotional...imagine that!
Of course many a prayer was said for CJ's safe return and candle lit Prayers
to the rescue! The weather was fairly cool which was certainly a Godsend as
heat without water (especially for a black dog) is lethal There was rain and
some storms but not the severity that we have been having...he might have drank
rain water
It certainly appears that he was stuck there since it happened Apparently
whoever tried to catch him couldn't get him which surprises me Why he didn't
bark his head off and get attention, I don't understand...he sure knows how to
bark at home.
I am so sorry I didn't listen to my gut instinct and my rule of: No
fence....No dog.
I hope CJ can forgive me and remain the happy healthy funloving lovebug that
everyone adores.
The kids are all asleep surrounding me while I am on the puter...CJ is
sleeping safely on one of his favorite beds and Charm is next to him. He is
supposed to have bland easy to digest food for a few days The vet suggested
oatmeal which I told him about Lady's gruel which they all love The vet thought
that
would be perfect. Its oatmeal cooked up with a little cream of rice cereal
with a 15 oz can of pureed chicken stirred in he will get about a half cup
every 4 hrs till his tummy settles down. He needs a bath and combed out but
other than diarrhea he seems ok He will also be on clavamox for a week just in
case and some herbs for his tummy and immune system
happy tears
thanks to everyone from the bottom of my heart and from CJ too!
