Berkeley Salutes The USA! (or how to spoof hardcore left wing and right wing zealots ... In Five Easy Steps!!!)

Step One Form a fictitious right wing organization, file for a permit to stage a rally in Berkeley's Peoples Park. Set up a poorly designed website. Let people make their own assumptions about the sinister nature of the organization.

Step Two Leak a vitriolic press release full of obvious factual errors to "progressive" and anti-war organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Encourage them to send "urgent action" missives to their peers.

Step Three Form a bogus "summer boot camp" for kids. Take photo from Hitler Youth, photoshop it, change "Hitler Youth" to "Young Patriots". Send letters to right wing organizations and candidates. Get numerous supportive responses from them (nobody catches the Hitler Youth reference).

Step Four Put on a nice suit. Hand out flyers at local peace rally. Keep your cool as pampered suburban brats turned anti WTO activists scream "Fuck the USA!", "fascists go home", etc. Try to maintain straight face as aging hippie calls your friend (who is the gayest person on the planet, and a drag queen), a right wing thug.

Step Five Invite an confrontational, doodoo flinging Elvis impersonator as your headline act (what's more American than Elvis?). Also invite jackass marching band, and various other freaks and malcontents from San Francisco to impersonate ultra right wing activists. Sit back, way back, and enjoy the show!
