Notes

Many HMMWV variants are simply existing versions fitted with a self-recovery winch (as described above). For instance, the M998 fitted with a winch is designated the M1038 (Cargo/Troop Carrier with Winch). The M1038 has TV of 161.

Many HMMWV chassis are also being fitted with add-on armor kits to improve their survivability. The need for "uparmored" HMMWVs was identified during peacekeeping missions in the Balkans, but has increased greatly since then, particularly in Iraq. An "uparmored" M998 has an AV of 5, with a TV of 157 (163 for the winch-equipped M1038 version). Purpose-built, fully armored HMMWVs such as the M1114 will be described seperately.
