Every Banner tells a story and it is the aim of Banner Tales to ensure that these stories are not lost and forgotten.

Banner tales is a community organisation founded to identify, restore, display and--where possible--parade Colliery & Union Lodge Banners from the West Gateshead area of North-East England.

Starting with the Greenside Lodge Banner (pictured above) Banner Tales aims to
identify as many neglected banners as
possible and work towards their restoration.

The Greenside Banner has now been restored and for the first time in 35 years it was paraded through the village and at  The Durham Miners Gala--"The Big Meeting"- in July 2003.  This occasion was videoed and details can be found by clicking here.
