Awards and Rules
The Centurion USA race is a walking race in
which one attempts to walk 100 miles in less than 24 hours. The Ultracentric 24 hour running race has graciously allowed for us to hold our 2005 event as part of their running event.
Awards will be
given to:
1) the fastest male
and the fastest female to legally walk 100 miles
2) the male and the
female walker who accumulate the most miles in 24 hours.
3) Any walker who legally walks 100 miles in
24:00 or faster will receive a Centurion USA award.
Walkers who are taking part of the Centurion
USA race may be required to wear supplied identification (a bib number on the
back as well as some supplied frontal identification) so they can be judged by
walk race officials.
Judging:
For this event, walking will be defined as
"a progression of steps so that continuous contact with the ground is
maintained at all times.".
There will be at least one judge on the
course at all times, and each judge shall
1) disqualify
someone "on the spot" for "blatant, prolonged, or frequent"
infractions. (e. g., blatant running)
2) or issue
"report an athlete's first observed infraction (same red card process as a
"proposal for disqualification" (USATF) or "warning" (IAAF)
in race walking) for other rule infractions.
3) shall issue
cautions upon the first recognition of danger of a rule violation and whenever
specifically queried by an athlete.
Three warnings OR an on the spot
disqualification shall disqualify the walker from receiving a walking award.
Note that there is no need for the warnings to come from three separate judges.
The walker may continue on as part of the running race if they so desire, but
will be required to remove the walker identification bibs and tags.
Of course, getting disqualified by the Ultracentric race officials for
any reason will disqualify the walker from receiving a walking award.
Walkers who wish to retire from the walking
race but wish to continue with the running race are requested to notify the
judge on the track and to remove all walker identification.
Straight Knee Rule
No walker will get disqualified for bent
knees. However some judges find that bent knees plus a high turn-over rate
makes continuous contact difficult to judge. Unlike formal racewalking,
it will be up to the walker to demonstrate continuous contact!
