CNN.com - Sci-Tech - Space - First Alpha crew gives space station high marks - March 28, 2001 "You can't see your family. Your bones and muscles wilt away. You can't even take a decent bath.
"But the first long-term residents of the new international space station Alpha still give life on the station rave reviews."

2001.
And this, a space oddity.
"It's the G-spot of the locust...
BBC News | Why locusts swarm " For the first time, zoologists at the University of Oxford, UK, have pinpointed touch-sensitive hairs on the insects' hind legs which activate swarming.
" 'It's the G-spot of the locust - G for gregarisation, in this case,' team leader Stephen Simpson told BBC News Online.
"Locusts are normally shy, solitary creatures. But in a swarm they become a menace, capable of stripping fields of crops in a matter of hours.
"The Oxford team has found that 'hot-spots' on the hind legs of the locusts, stimulated when they group together, turn the relatively harmless insects into destructive pests."
Dan Dan took me to one of his fishing spots up the shore, mouth of the Sucker river - past the French with the hatchery - to cast loopers for trout.
Here is one reason I have such a fine roommate: Today's News "Kenya's universities are rejecting government proposals that they admit more students, saying that they do not have the capacity to educate the 22,000 students who were turned away this year even though they had passed the entrance examinations."
Speaking of whom...
Wangai, my esteemed opponent, has defeated the azwaldo pawn empire yet again.
Current score:
Wangai 6-1/2 azwaldo 5-1/2

"The final manoeuvres all went according to plan and were a triumph for Russian ground controllers. Since 1978, 85 craft, including several previous space stations, have been safely brought to Earth in the South Pacific and Mir was no exception."

So, if you are worried about where the Mir is right now, or any other satellite... This is a pretty spiffy site.J-Pass: Setup Help Brought to you by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, J-Pass is intended for entertainment only.
We hope J-Pass will be an exciting participation in humankind's exploration of space. Enjoy!

I actually worry more about some of this falling on my head...Astronauts boost space station, take out trash - The really unpleasant waste -- human waste, stored in sealed toilet canisters -- goes into unmanned Russian supply ships. These ships are sent periodically to the space station and, once emptied and refilled with garbage, are jettisoned to burn up in the atmosphere.
...than I do this:Russian mission controllers will attempt to guide the doomed space station Mir into a huge watery grave in the Pacific Ocean. What are the odds that the largest manmade object ever to fall from space will land on someone?

This is bound to be a "long war":'Terminator' victory a small step in long war "A firestorm of criticism - and well-organized campaigns by opponents - over the development of plants that are genetically engineered to produce infertile seeds caused Monsanto to announce Monday that it would not pursue the commercial development of so-called terminator technology. Biotech critics say that it's one battle in a long war, though."
