LOVE SOAPS would like to send its condolences to the Bell family and the entire soap community with the passing of the wonderful William J. Bell. He will forever be remembered for his invaluable contribution to daytime drama - as well as to us, the fans.



	Hi, Everyone, I know it has been a long time since I have gotten to work on my many soap opera-related websites. There have been several reasons, one of them serious computer problems, but we'll get to that another time. But today I am here to bring you sad news: WILLIAM J. BELL, A DAYTIME LEGEND, A SOAP CREATOR DECLARED THE KING OF DAYTIME, PASSED AWAY FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 2005. William J. Bell (Bill Bell) is considered a daytime legend. He was a writer on many soaps, studying from the now-late Irna Phillips, the creator of soap operas. He took part in the history of GUIDING LIGHT, ANOTHER WORLD (now off-screen) and AS THE WORLD TURNS. He was head writer of DAYS OF OUR LIVES for many years, taking the soap from the bottom to the top of the ratings list. Together with his wife of 51 years, Lee Phillip Bell, he created THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS in 1973 and took the daytime dramas to a new level, raising the bar. To show their three children what it takes to create a soap opera, Bill and Lee took CBS' offer and create a sister soap to Y&R in 1987 - THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. They have both been involved with both shows, but decided to retire officially several years ago. Bill died three days ago from Alzheimer complications, and he's 78. He celebrated his birthday merely two month ago, and on Friday he has left this world, leaving us all with a deep sadness and great emptiness. He is survived by his wife, Lee; their three children: Bill Jr., president of Bell Dramatic Serial Company and Bell-Phillip Television Productions, Inc., Bradley, head writer and executive producer of B&B, and Lauralee, lead actress on Y&R (portraying Christine since 1986); and eight grandchildren: Liam, Sabrina, Chasen, Caroline, Charlotte and Oliver Bell, and Christian and Samantha Martin. Funeral services will be arranged at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills, Calif. If you wish to honor Bill's memory, the family has asked donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association instead of sending flowers.
