The Arthur United Methodist Episcopal Church was organized by the Rev. Mr. M. H. Ewers in November, 1893.  The original class had twenty members.  The first building was completed in 1899 at Luke and Walnut Streets.  A new brick building was erected at the corner of Illinois and Hickory Streets.  Over the years, the Cadwell and Rosedale churches were served by the pastors of the Arthur church.  Epworth League Charter is dated October 17, 1895; the Sunday School was organized in November, 1895; a parsonage was purchased October 20, 1903; a pipe organ was purchased in 1947.  A new church nave was consecrated in 1965 with remodeling done to the older building housing classrooms, office, and fellowship hall.
