Mylai key board scheme is designed in a manner easy for Roman Keyboard typists to enter Tamil texts directly from keyboard. It differs from Tamil type writer scheme. It is also not optimized for typing speed. It was proposed by Dr.K. Kalyanasundaram Several texts are available in this format. Conversion to and from Adhawin Truetype format, readable romanized Tamil (Adami/Madurai), as well as several other formats are possible with the MS-Window based software ADHAWIN of K. Srinivasan of Quebec, Canada.

If you install MylaiSri truetype font for MS-Windows or Mylai-Sri Truetype font for Macintosh or MYLAI font and use Netscape 3.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 you will be seeing the following text in Tamil on your screen. Click on the highlighted links to get your copy.

Two ways to create text documents in Tamil

You should have Netscape 3.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 . The readers also need to have Mylai-Sri Truetype font for MS-Windows or Mylai-Sri Truetype font for Macintosh or Adhawin Truetype font for MS-Windows. They need not have the Adhawin software package.

Method 1

Download Mylai-Sri Truetype font for MS-Windows or Mylai-Sri Truetype font for Macintosh
1. Prepare your documents by direct keyboard entry with a word processor which supports fonts. Use Mylai-Sri or MylaiPlain font.
2. Then globally replace all > characters by &gt; and all < characters by &lt; to convert Mylai documents to HTML documents.
3. Add <font face = Mylai-Sri> at the start of document and add </font face> at the end of the document.
4. Save the document as unformatted text and with a html or htm extention.
You should not include normal English texts within this font face text.


Method 2

Download ADHAWIN Software.
1. Compose your text in readable romanized Tamil (Adami/Madurai format).
2. Convert the document to Adhawin font using ADHAWIN MS-Windows based software.
3. Add <font face = Adhawin-Tamil> at the start of document and add </font face> at the end of the document.
4. Save the document as unformatted text and with a html or htm extention.
You can include normal English texts within this font face text. They will appear in English.
