| Welcome to PNE (Northeast Philadelphia Airport) Airport Support Network website. This site is here to provide the pilots and community in the Northeast Philadelphia Airport area with information related to aviation and the community. This site is built by your Airport Support Network volunteer at PNE. Please feel free to visit our links and e mail us if you have any questions or comments about this site or the Northeast Philadelphia Airport and the community that we care so much about. BACKGROUND: Pressures on publicly and privately owned airports continue to mount. This pressure takes many forms including curfews, noise restrictions, lack of improvements, residential encroachment, and even calls to close the airport. Often, the generalaviation community is totally unaware of what's boiling in the pot concerning their airport - until it is too late to turn the tide. Knowing what's happening in the political environment surrounding a local airport is of utmost importance if we are going to preserve our general aviation infrastructure into the foreseeable future. The AOPA Airport Support Network (ASN) provides members to work in concert with AOPA to establish that early warning system. GOAL: AOPA will appoint one member who will act as a volunteer and be our "eyes & ears" at every airport across the United States who will have direct contact, on a day to day basis, with qualified individuals who can provide information on issues of importance to general aviation pilots, airport managers, and community citizens. ASN volunteers will endeavor to enhance industry professionalism and assist airport service providers, airport sponsors and owners, elected officials, and airport users stay ahead of the growing needs of general aviation aircraft owners and pilots. Contact us if there is anything you would like to add to this site that relates to PNE. |

| NOISE ABATEMENT A noise abatement program has been developed in an effort to reduce the impact of airport noise on its neighbors without compromising safety or restricting operations. Safety of the flight is the number one priority. If the pilot in command feels that any procedure will affect the safety of the flight then he or she should put safety first and do what he or she has been trained to do. You may want to check FAR/AIM for departure procedures. With that in mind, here are the noise abatement procedures as set by PNE airport management. Procedure Implementation: 1) Operators of turbojet-powered airplanes with a maximum certified take-off weight over 12,500 pounds should follow the standard noise abatement profiles unless authorized or directed by air traffic control. 2) Pilots of turboprop, trubojet and large prop aircraft (prop aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds) are requested to use runway 6-24, unless significant winds dictate otherwise. Departure Procedures: 1) All departures shall maintain runway heading until reaching 400 feet above ground before making any turns. 2) Runway 33 (Noise Sensitive) VFR departures in addition to the above, are requested to begin cross-wind leg at or prior to the first highway northwest of the airport. Arrival Procedures: 1) Runway 15 arrivals are requested to fly at or above the standard glide path to avoid a noise sensative area off the approach end of the runway. Runway Usage: As directed by A.T.C. unless otherwise required by distance from clouds criteria, the traffic pattern altitudes for PNE are as follows: 1) Lightweight aircraft (less than 12,500 lbs) - 1000' AGL (1120' MSL) 2) Aircraft weighing 12,500lbs or more and all turbojet/turbine powered aircraft - 1500' AGL (1620' MSL) 3) Rotorcraft - 800' AGL (920' MSL) and avoid residential area on the east-southeast boundary of the airport. 4) As directed by A.T.C., touch-and-go aircraft are to make right-hand traffic pattern when utilizing runway 6. Engine Run-Ups: Shall be limited to the following locations- Between the hours of 0600-2300: 1) Lightweight aircraft (less than 12,500 lbs) Are to run-up on the concrete ramp which is that portion of the main ramp northwest of taxiway Alpha-4. 2) Aircraft over 12,500 lbs. Are to run-up on taxiway Hotel between runway 6-24 and taxiway Alpha, as directed by A.T.C. Between the hours of 2300-0600: 1) Aircraft engine run-ups must have prior approval from airport. Contact Airport Security at 215-685-0316 and provide the following information- Aircraft type, tail number, aircraft operator, time & duration of run-up. 2) Run-ups of all aircraft are to be performed on taxiways Lima (location on taxiway Lima determined by wind) / With the winds from the West, Northwest, North, Northeast, or East, run-ups will be done on taxiway Lima near the approach end of runway 24. / With the winds from the Southeast, South, or Southwest, run-ups will be done on taxiway Lima between runway 15-33 and taxiway Juliet. Touch-and-Go Operations (This is strictly a VOLUNTARY program): Are limited to the following days and hours- Mondays through Saturdays between the hours of 0700 and 2200. / Sundays between the hours of 0900 and 2200 / Touch-and-go's are limited to five (5) per flight. Hold Pad Delays: During extended delays on hold pads it is suggested that you restrict unnecessary use of your engine to reduce noise and air pollution. These procedures are put in place by PNE airport management. Refer to your FAR/AIM for any clarification in procedures. Remember SAFETY is the final answer. |
