26 Jul Border Reivers Kelly The Bloody Borders Caught Red-Handed! Scottish-English Border Reivers Lock the Bastle and Guard the Borders. The Reivers are about.
Lock the door, Larriston, Lion of Liddesdale
Lock the door, Larriston, Lowther comes on
The Armstrongs are flying,
The Widows are crying,
The Castleton's burning and Oliver's gone.
Lock the door, Larriston; high in the weather gleam
See how the Saxon plumes bob in the sky -
Yeoman and carbineer,
Billman and halberdier,
Fierce is the foray and far is the cry.

I'll try these simple and free rules, "*The Bloody Borders" available for download at http://www.wargamesillustrated.net/reader.asp

But anyway, go to this website and pick yourself out an English or Scottish Riding name. http://www.sos.net/~scotlass/border.htm#BORDER%20NAMES Email me your Riding name. An ye best not be pickin Armstrang, aye I will cleave ye steil bonnet.

I need to get about 4 players who will run clans (i.e. pick a riding name and show up when we play) to make the campaign and looting point system work. Other folks can still play in the individual battles. The Riding name players don't have to worry about picking or equipping reivers in advance, all you'll have to do is pick missions (pick another clan to raid, defend the hearth, or guard the border) and then we fight out the raids and hot trods.

Awesome Quotes

We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.
– George Orwell
I cannot spare this man, he fights.
– Lincoln (concerning Grant)
If you are able,
save for them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

– Major Michael Davis O'Donnell; 1 January 1970; Dak To, Vietnam

When you've spent your time in combat
Behind a sandbagged wall
Bullets with your name on it
Don't bother you at all

When you've dodged your share of bullets
The one thing that you'll learn
The ones that really worry you
Read "To whom it may concern"

– A. Nonomous

Lord Chelmsford: See here, Cetewayo, old man. Your point value at Isandlwana was entirely beyond the pale. Why you had far more points on the field than I did. In the future I would appreciate it if you would be a bit more punctilious in determining just how many warriors you can have in any one fight. Simply contact my aide and he will inform you of the number of points we will be fielding. I then expect you to field no more points than we. That's a good chap.

Cetewayo: What?
– Philip Hall on the subject: "Points Values" from the The Sword and the Flame Yahoo Group

When you go home,
tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow
we give our today.

– A tombstone at Arnhem
