The Sydney congregation was founded in 1850. Rev. George H. Stanley was appointed in 1853. The first church was in Macquarie Street. In the 1870s the congregation moved to a new church in Liverpool Street. This was destroyed by fire in 1936 and another was built in Francis Street, which was opened in 1940. In 1970 the church was demolished and, on the same site, was made part of a new multi-storey office block, which is our present location.
Forthcoming Events
Sunday 16 July 2000: Confucius Meets Miss Manners
As Confucius knew, a society and a culture is held together by more than laws and the fear of punishment. A sense of community is built, in part, by how we treat one another, especially the mass of public beyond our family and friends.
Sunday 23 July 2000: Participation
Active involvement and participation is something that a church strives to attain for its members and friends. It is the primary goal of the leadership of any church, not just busyness, but satisfying involvement and participation. However, it can be a very elusive and difficult to define quality, particularly for Unitarians.
