As a
sophomore he became the first player in UConn men's basketball
history to behold All-American status. Allen is in his 5th
season in the NBA and has started for the Milwaukee Bucks. Ray
became the 1996 Big East Player of the Year and after averaging
23.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 3.3 apg, he became All-Big East First team
pick. During the 1997 NBA All-Star Weekend in Cleveland he
scored 8 points in the Schick Rookie Game. To pass the 1000
point at UConn as a sophomore, he became the first player. He
was also named honorary captain of the 25-member UCONN
All-Century Basketball Team with his 1,200th career free throw
on 23rd December 2000. Ray Allen lead the US to the
gold medal at the World University Games in 1995. He also
qualified as the eighth-best free throw shooter in NBA history.
With time he has emerged as a solid
NBA
product.
He
averaged 23.4 points per game as a junior and was named the Big
East Player of the Year. He led UConn to the Sweet Sixteen in
the 1996 NCAA Tournament. He was selected by Minnesota and
immediately traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. As a beginner, he
started 81 (of 82 games), but only managed to average 13.4
points per game. Allen has been called "Jordanesque," since his
game look a lot like the great Michael Jordan's. With the
addition of Brandon, Allen now gets the ball more often, and
more importantly, scores more. He possesses the skills to become
a lasting All-Star, and has the ability to make the Bucks
playoff contender.
