Introduction
You will create a literary magazine
from the Harlem Renaissance.
The Task
Your Magazine will be 4-6 pages in length and include the
following:
- Cover Art
- One Features Article 300-400 words about a Harlem Renaissance
poet or writer. A picture must accompany the article.
- One Interview (300-400 words) of a Harlem Renaissance
performing or visual artist. A picture must accompany the
interview.
- One News Article (300-400 words) about an event during the
Harlem Renaissance. Go to www.fatherryan.org/harlemrenaissance/
for a list of newsworthy events during the Harlem
Renaissance.
- Collect 2-3 poems written during the Harlem Renaissance.
- One Portrait or Photograph by a visual artist
- Something extra you would like to include.

The Process

Your Magazine will be 4-6 pages in length and include the

(universal resource locator) or website address
and copy and paste it somewhere on the cover page to
given credit to the artist who created it.
- One Features Article, 300-400 words about a Harlem
Renaissance poet or writer. A picture must accompany the
article.
- Go to www.google.com, click on images, and search
for a graphic to use as the background for your
magazine cover page.
- One Interview (300-400 words) of a Harlem Renaissance
performing or visual artist. A picture must accompany the
interview.
- One Portrait or Photograph by a visual artist
- One News Article (300-400 words) about an event
during the Harlem Renaissance. Go to
www.fatherryan.org/harlemrenaissance/ for a list of
newsworthy events during the Harlem Renaissance.
- Collect 2-3 poems written during the Harlem
Renaissance.

Learning Advice
- You will be graded on:
- using the proper format for each magazine article you
write
- evidence of notes and research from several of the Harlem
Renaissance websites
- a bibliography for details in your writing
- a bibliography for all photographs
Conclusion
Some magazines will be posted to the Internet. Be sure to do your
best work.
