Aleta Tenney's Website

Hello and Welcome,
My name is Aleta and this is my home on the web.  As a small child I used to sit on my grandpa's knee and listen to his wonderful stories.  I'd tell my parents I wanted to go hear more of Grandpa's lies.  Of course he never lied.  He just told me the most interesting stories about his life.  Some of those stories I plan to incorporate in my own writing, in one way or another.
Grandpa's mother was a full-blood Cherokee, but she married a white man and hid her heritage. She was born in 1866, and her father, was born in 1836-- two years before the Trail of Tears, and you just didn't tell the world you were Indian.  She never even taught her children the traditions of her people.  So there is no proof that I have Cherokee blood, but I know it in my heart.  My mother looked Indian, but she never wanted to learn about the Cherokee.  My dad is also of Native American descent.  His father was part Blackfoot and his mother part Cherokee.
So, although I'm not a tribal member, or recognized in any way, I still love the Indian people and my heritage. And I want to know as much as possible about them.
I've always wanted to write, and within the last few years I've discovered I truly love it.  I recently completed a non-traditional Historical Romance, Indian of course.
Although I'm not published at present, it's my dream to become a published author.  I have several more books planned, which hopefully will be completed more quickly than the first.  Some of the characters and locations from the first book will be included in the following stories, and they will include some paranormal.
I'm a member of three critique groups.  The members of the crit groups have been an amazing help to me, and I doubt that I could have done anything without them.
Recently I added links to many Author's websites, which will give visitors access to their favorite authors, and lots of helpful articles on writing.
Please visit my writing sample page to read some of my work.  "They Dance" has been moved there, and I am adding a few of my Christian poems.
Favorite Quotes
"Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth. This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. One thing we know: Our god is also your god. The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator.--"Chief Seattle.
"If the white man wants to live in peace with the Indian...we can live in peace. There need be no trouble. Treat all men alike...give them all the same law. Give them all an even chance to live and grow. All men were made by the same Great Spirit Chief. They are all brothers. The earth is the mother of all people, and all people should have equal rights upon it. Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade...where I choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to think and talk and act for myself, and I will obey every law, or submit to the penalty."-- Chief Joseph
