"Rats..!!!",  "Aaaah..!!!",   "Eeeewww",  "Grose",  "OMG that tail is freaking me out"
Seem familiar ?

Those seem to be common responses when some people think of Rats.

The truth, however, is that Rats make some of the most wonderful pets anyone can ever dream of.
Contrary to popular belief, Rats are clean, sweet, playful, loving, affectionate, and are always happy to see you.
They can be taught tricks, can ride on your shoulder, or in a bag, and can be litter-box trained. (Yep!  You read right!)

Someone once said: "The main reason people don't like rats, is because of the tail, but if a Rat had a fluffy tail like that  of  a Squirrel, it would be the most popular pet in the world.!"
We Agree !!!

Rats are, by nature, social creatures.  To keep just 1 would be like keeping a human being alone.
No amount of toys in your Rats cage can replace a companion.
Your rat's ultimate toy, is play-time with another Rat, and they will compete for your attention when let out of their cage.
In our experience, we noticed that rats are happiest in groups of 3 or more.

Rats are some of the most wonderful and devoted Mothers in the animal kingdom.
They will forster any baby that will suckle them, mice, hamsters, gerbils, you name it.
In a Rat Community, everyone pitches in to help raise the Pups, and there have been instances where young females, which have never had a litter of their own, would start lactating, and nursing another female's offspring.
Rats will even help each other during birth, and will alternate cleaning and stimulating the newborn Pups.

Rat Males are naturally caring Fathers, and seem to know instinctivley which Pups are theirs.  They often help keeping them warm, and cleaning them.  Some males have been known to assist the females during birth.

Rats can pretty much eat anything, with a few exceptions.
Please do your research before you decide on choosing a Rat for a Pet !

THINGS TO CONSIDER
*** *** ***
Rats should
NEVER be kept in Fish-Tanks !!!
They don't have the necessary Ventilation, and your Rats WILL become sick if kept in such enclosed areas.
The Best cages are made of wire, and have more than 1 level, giving your rats plenty of space to play.
Do
NOT Keep your Rats on ANY kind of bedding made of wood-chips, such as Pine, Cedar, etc.
These contain large amounts on dust which irritates your rat's lungs, and can eventually kill your pet.
In our cages, we use old towels, and we make Hammocks, pouches, and sleeping tubes ourselves.
You can pick up materials at a thrift-shop, or Walmart, and be able to fill a cage for under $5.00 !
*** *** ***
Your Rats will need a Nutritious, and Balanced Diet, including fresh Fruit and Veggies.
Please stay away from Rodent food consisting of mostly seeds which is sold in local Stores.
These might work for Mice, Hammies and Gerbils, but they are the wrong way to go with a Rat.
Again, Please do your research before you decide on choosing a Rat for a Pet !!!
A Good way to do this is by research, joining a Forum & asking LOTS of Questions from experienced Owners
