A digitally stylized look at the fountain and pond in Rittenhouse Square from my favorite place to sit, sip a hazelnut cap, and people watch. On a sunny day like today, the Square is a wonderful place to be. The kiosk in the photograph is a police assistance site, but it sees its best use when a string quartet from the Curtis Institute of Music across the street from the Square drops by to play a little Bach. The public square, one of William Penn's original five, was known as the "Southwest Square" until 1825, when it was named for the astronomer-clockmaker, David Rittenhouse (1732-1796).
