What is the ACN?
The Anarchist Communitarian Network is an international network of individuals, groups, collectives, and communities which seeks to foward the anarchist movement by creating revolutionary counter-institutions within our society, focusing on the nucleus of anarchist theory: the community. With an increasing popular discontent with the dominant social norms of alienation, competition and dehumanization, we seek to create a qualitative change in social relationships and institutions to be more cooperative, non-hierarchical, democratic, intentional, intimate and authentic. We also see this as a chance to practice our beliefs to the fullest possible extent, bring anarchists together whom are usually separated by distance, and the purest form in which we may combat popular misconceptions of what anarchism truly stands for. Being a very pluralistic movement and organization, we greatly support all forms of egalitarian, democratic, intentional communities and advocate the formation of a federation of anarchist communities, including (but not limited to): housing co-ops, squats, communes, land trusts, collective houses, intentional neighborhoods, eco-villages, etc.
The ACN-NJ collective is comprised of ACN members from throughout the northern and central New Jersey area. Our focus is fairly original in the sense that instead of focusing on starting an anarchist community from scratch we seek to better the lives of numerous New Jersey citizens by creating permanent counter-institutions within our current communities. We seek to create long running anarchist programs which will improve the quality of life for many New Jersey citizens socially, emotionally, creatively, economically, etc, and create counter-institutions which may act as a conduit for popular social empowerment.
