The adults are black with pale line on belly. The inner part of arms and legs until just below the knee pale. A black band across the face joining the cheeks may be seen under good weather conditions. The flesh around the eyes and lips are much paler than the surrounding fur. Head-body length 460-590 mm, with tail 680-800 mm, weight approximately 5-6kg. This species of monkeys usually travel in troops of 6-20 led by an adult male. The natural diet consists principally of fruit and new leaves. Because of low population and loss of suitable habitats, it causes the monkeys to decrease in population. These monkeys are restricted to the Central Catchment Area between Seletar and Upper Pierce Reservoirs in Singapore.
