1)
Drill Sergeant: Gump! What's your sole purpose in

me, drill sergeant! Drill Sergeant: God damn it,
Gump! You're a god damn genius! This is the most outstanding answer I have ever
heard. You must have a goddamn I.Q. of 160. You are goddamn gifted, Private Gump.
2) Forrest
Gump: I'm sorry I had to fight in the middle of your Black Panther party.
3)
Forrest Gump: I ran for three years, five months, and two days. When I
was hungry, I ate. When I was tired, I slept. When I had to go, you know, I went.
4) Lieutenant
Daniel Taylor: That's what all these cripples down at the VA talk about:
Jesus this and Jesus that. They even had a priest come and talk to me. He said
God is listening and if I found Jesus, I'd get to walk beside him in the kingdom
of Heaven. Did you hear what I said? WALK beside him in the kingdom of Heaven!
Well kiss my crippled ass. God is listening? What a crock of shit.
5)
Jenny Curran: Were you scared in Vietnam?
Forrest
Gump: Yes. Well, I-I don't know. Sometimes it would stop raining long enough
for the stars to come out... and then it was nice. It was like just before the
sun goes to bed down on the bayou. There was always a million sparkles on the
water... like that mountain lake. It was so clear, Jenny, it looked like there
were two skies one on top of the other. And then in the desert, when the sun comes
up, I couldn't tell where heaven stopped and the earth began. It's so beautiful.
Jenny Curran: I wish I could've been there with
you.
Forrest Gump: You were.
Review:
Forrest
Gump is a entertaining look at a simple man's journey through life and the
turbulent times of recent American history. The most frequently recurring theme
that I found throughout this movie is not to give up on life. To me, Forrest
Gump seemed like a combination of Being There,
Little Big Man, and A World According to Garp.
Hanks gives a commanding performance in the title role for which he received the
Best Actor award. Robin Wright Penn gives the best performance of her career and
I wish she had been in more scenes. The real scene-stealer however, is Gary Sinise.
His portrayal of Lieutenant Dan Taylor is riveting. The passion and pain he brings
to the middle portions of Forrest Gump pushed the film to another level.
I still recall sitting in the theater, realizing halfway through, that I was witnessing
what would soon become an American classic. -Review by Aaron Caldwell
