More Star Trek Ships--including custom miniatures similar to FASA miniatures or micro-machines

Historic starships from the Promellians, Menthar, Vaadwaur, and Gorn, plus Ferengi and Orion ships and examples of surplus or obselete ships sold by the major powers (including the Federation and the Klingons) to other, minor powers in the Great Spiral. [This was a practice common among Earth's oceanic navies 1850s-2000s AD, as many South American, Asian and even poorer European powers purchased some of their warships from the British, French, Germans, and later the Americans and Russians, to add strength to their navies because the minor powers' own shipbuilding resources were limited or slow to develop. There were even European purpose-built 'generic export ships' in this time. It is only logical that this would also occur in the interstellar community when Starfleet and the other major space fleets retired obselete or surplus ships, resulting in minor-power fleets that are mixes of home-built and purchased ships.]

Gorn pre-warp battleship

Class:BR-8 [custom design]
Mass: 672,000 tons
Speed: Warp 0.9
Armament: Plasma weapons, Antimatter missiles and X-ray-lasers

Note: A powerful non-warp battleship with dense armor and heavy firepower, these ships served as system defense ships in the era even before the first Gorn-Romulan war. The BR-8 was actually a very mobile sublight ship for such a massive vessel, and served well into the warp-drive era despite their obselescence. A BR-8 was in some ways superior to a battlestation in its ability to counter Romulan or Paravian incursions, and in several Gorn home systems an old but heavily upgraded BR-8 was used as a flagship for a fleet of monitors, with supporting light cruisers to act as a 'flying squadron' trapping the enemy within the weapons range of the non-warp ships.

Promellian battlecruiser (ancient)

Class: Hudonji
Mass: 290,000 tons
Speed: Warp 8
Armament: Hellbores and Particle beam weapons

Note: A 1000-year old battlecruiser from an extinct species, the Promellians. Data on this class gathered from three wrecks found in orbit around Upsilon Yahar VII by the Vulcan research ship T'pavarsi in 2104. Promellian battlecruisers such as this and the slightly larger Cleponji class were deployed against another extinct species, the Menthar, in a galaxy-shaking war of mutual annihilation. The evidence indicates that Promellian ships were individually more powerful and very durable, but the Menthar cruisers and lancers had greater maneuverability and could be more easily refit with improved engines and weaponry. The fact that two empires (as large as the Klingon and Romulan Empires are now) could be destroyed in a single war was stunning to the Vulcans (who were in a period of pacifist isolationism at the time of the war and did not participate) and affected their views on interstellar relations, including the need to be more active in influencing the early post-spaceflight development of potentially warlike species.

Menthar Strike Cruiser (ancient)

Class: Designation unknown [custom design]
Mass: 160,000 tons
Speed: Warp 8
Armament: Quantum charges and fusion beams

Note: A 1000-year old cruiser from an extinct species known as the Menthar (more properly named the Rau'Mentharr). Data on this ship class was gathered from fragmentary wrecks in several systems, including one orbiting the outermost major planet of the Bajoran system (the site of a temporary Menthar base that was eliminated by a Promellian raid; there is no evidence the Menthar found a wormhole or learned of the Dominion which was first expanding at about the same time). The Menthar Empire and the Promellian Empire annihilated each other in a bloody war; the Promellians are the better-studied of the two species but the Mentharr apparently had a similar technology level and used a larger number of ships to offset the Promellians' more powerful vessels. The Menthar are also responsible for still-hazardous minefields, rogue automated weapons systems, and irradiated planets (although their own worlds met similar fates at the hands of the Promellians).

Vaadwaur Command Ship (ancient)

Class: Designation uncertain [custom design]
Mass: estimated 180,000 tons
Speed: Warp 6 to 8
Armament: weak; attack craft were the primary offensive platform

Note: 900-year old Vaadwaur command ship design. Usually carried six WC-200D attack craft; the command ship itself would rarely enter combat but would direct several squadrons of fighters and its own smaller attack craft in a concerted attack on enemy warships or bases. Data gathered by the USS Voyager upon first contact with the self-entombed survivors of the defunct Delta Quadrant empire. The Vaadwaur reported that their extensive empire, held together by subspace corridors and defended by masses of small, armed attack craft, gunboats and fighters, had been overthrown by a coalition of rebellious species who then divided up the subspace corridor network (much of which has since decayed due to neglect). The Vaadwaur were thought extinct until the revival of the survivors by the crew of the Voyager; this brought the survivors into conflict with the Turei, descendants of one of the minor species involved in the uprising.

Vaadwaur Attack Craft (ancient)

Class: WC-200D
Mass: estimated 1,000 tons
Speed: Warp 8
Armament: Phasers

Note: 900-year old Vaadwaur attack craft design (see above), used in large numbers to tear apart the fleets of unmaneuverable battlewagons and frigates put together by the Delta Quadrant species of the era. After a long reign the Vaadwaur had assembled so many enemies that even a disorganized, low-tech uprising among some subjugated species would gain momentum and outside support, which is how the Vaadwaur Empire finally met its end. Their downfall (and the technology they abandoned) allowed other species to rise into interstellar powers, like the Turei and the Zahl eventually did, although other members of the anti-Vaadwaur alliance are now extinct (like the Atrail and the Hiurthra), scattered and on the verge of extinction (the Trabe and the Talaxians) or have been assimilated by the Borg (the Esoku and most of the more advanced members of the now-dissolved Rohgonar Confederation).

T’Kalasa Vulcan Empire Ramfield Cruiser — Blood Green Sword Class
Era: Ancient
Length: 330 meters
Mass: 168,200 tons
Maximum speed: Warp .99
Armament: Antimatter bombs, lasers, nuclear missiles
Other stats:Superstructure+Structural and Navigational Fields= ; Deflector Shields=0
Notes: The T’Kalasa Empire was one of several Vulcan interplanetary empires that arose in the First Era of Expansion (which died down only after the rift between the Surakites and the traditionalists was ended by the mass migrations that produced the Romulans, Debrune, and other distant colonies). The ideology of the T’Kalasa was not peaceful, but its militarism has been overblown by historians; the goal was complete efficiency of effort to maximize population and the strength of the society. Although the T’Kalasa did not have warp drive, their Ramfield drive used a subspace field to augment the power of a ramjet, and several nearby solar systems were colonized from (Before Earth Common Era years) 480-330 BECE. Ironically, a rival empire on Vulcan, the Sre’Teru Praetorate, was experimenting with warp drive even earlier (670 BECE) but their research base on T’Khut was obliterated by a T’Kalasa nuclear strike in one of the many wars between these and other Vulcan nations as interplanetary expansion began. The T’Kalasa Blood-Green Sword class cruisers were non-warp interstellar combat ships that were adequate to defend their colonies against the opposition of the time. These heavily-armed cruisers were pivotal in defending Vulcan colonies against the Duthuliv and Etoshan raiders, exterminating the Bedderm Dynasty (a clan who had ruled the trans-Rigellian region for a century) and defeating the guardships of the Hrasan Federated Peoples (which in response closed its borders and began building huge spherical ships, bankrupting itself for centuries while only successfully completing two such craft by the 1700’s ECE...this decaying organization later referred to itself the First Federation when confronted by the more recent and dynamic UFP). The Vulcan Empire of T’Kalasa was destroyed not by an outside enemy—Vulcan nor alien—but by their own overpopulation; when their efficient society started to weaken, famine and chaos tumbled their empire by the Birth of Surak. Of their interstellar colonies, Selekak held out the longest but was conquered by the Promellians in 980 ECE, then destroyed by the Menthars a few hundred years later. Another colony, Rejem, was raided by the Debrune in 553 ECE. Most of the other colonies were barely self-sustaining and died out long before then. The last Blood-Green Sword class cruiser was a hulk in orbit around 40 Eridani C-III and apparently decayed and broke apart in the 1700s ECE during a time between eras of expansion when the Vulcans were not paying as much attention to events in space.

The Federation frigate USS Ksitigarbha (registration classified)

Class: Upgraded Loknar [FASA design]
Armament: Photon torpedos, phasers

Note: A powerful ship used for various operations that fell outside the normal duties of Starfleet.

The LMC Exploitation Company freighter 'Fortunate Find'

Class: D'magrab [custom design]
Length: 292 meters
Mass: 164,000 tons empty
Speed: Warp 6
Armament: minimal

Note: One of many Ferengi 'tramp-freighters', these ships are not nearly as memorable as well-armed Marauders, but numerous ships like this have been acquired by nearly every major Ferengi corporation and carry out a far greater share of interstellar trade.

Yridian Destroyer

Class: TombSeeker
Length: 192 meters
Mass: 41,000 tons empty
Speed: Warp 7
Armament: Short-range blasters

Note: A Yridian destroyer with more than one role: trade-route defense and searching out technology, kidnapping researchers, or raiding ancient ruins for profit. The Yridians are known as information-dealers and petty pirates, although their operations are usually not serious threats to the various Orion cartels and Ferengi corporations.

Klingon Wul'uqwe Family destroyer 'Destined to Rule'

Class: Upgraded D-16 [FASA design]
Mass: 72,000 tons
Speed: Warp 8
Upgraded Orion black-market deflector shields
Armament: Disruptors

Note: An older Klingon design, modified and sold to a powerful Klingon family for their private naval force. The power-hungry Wul'uqwe Family was prevented from taking over the Imperial government by a combined Imperial-Starfleet operation in which the USS Ksitigarbha destroyed several Klingon ships and was itself badly damaged.

Orion Polaris Syndicate Flagship 'Enforcer'

Class: Enforcer [custom design]
Mass: 55,000 tons
Speed: Warp 8.5
Armament: Unknown but nasty

Note: Unique ship built for captain Hu Bilal, whose racket was the 'policing' (controlling/exploiting) the slave trade of various Rigel sector cartels until the Starfleet ship USS Ksitigarbha suppressed the slave trade (acting on intelligence provided by Ferengi corporations willing to challenge the Syndicate--for altruistic purposes of course).

Orion Wanderer

Class: Blockade Runner (Corvette type) [FASA illustration]
Armament: Varies depending on owner of ship

Note: A popular design with several Orion cartels, these ships are of much higher quality than the typical pirate or smuggler, and are capable of powering a full array of weapons and shields even at high warp.

I'vijenad Defense Force destroyer 'Velxaj-114' (formerly the Federation ship USS Mainz, sold off after it ended its useful service life in Starfleet)

Class: Porter [custom design for FASA scenario]

Note: A small, mass-produced destroyer class that bore much of the fighting against the more numerous Klingon ships in the Four Years War. The Mainz was sold as a disarmed war surplus ship to the I'vijenad Defense Force (the I'vijenad are a quasi-arthropod species that has been a longtime Federation ally but delayed full membership to avoid provoking the Gorn and the Romulans). More detail on this class of ship in Federation service is available on the Four Years War page.

Briamosite Intersystem Fleet destroyer 'Huazar Resab' (formerly the Federation ship USS Kagero, sold off after it was retired from active service in Starfleet)

Class: Marklin [custom model based on FASA sketch]

Note: A large, powerful but flawed destroyer from the early years of the Federation-Klingon rivalry. The famous Garth of Izar used one of this class, the USS Xenophon to defeat a Klingon D-4 cruiser, and then led Federation forces to victory in two battles against Klingon fleets attempting to occupy Axanar. After the war, the Kagero was put in mothballs before being sold as war surplus to a new Federation ally, the Briamosites, to strengthen their fleet of more primitive cruisers against the Klingon threat. Briamos would later become a full member of the Federation after economic-disparity concerns were allayed. More detail on this class of ship in Federation service is available on the Four Years War page.

Briamosite Intersystem Fleet cruiser 'Gre Resab'

Class: Deros Resab [custom]

Note: The Briamosites had developed warp drive and built a fleet of warships to defend their homeworld and colony systems by the time they set up relations with the Federation and the Klingons. Placing great value on courage and determination, the Briamosites had an internal debate as to which great power they should align with. Several incidents placed the pro-Federation factions in control of the government long enough to build a firm relationship with the UFP.

Ammon High System Cruiser 'Uyamm Es'

Class: Emmad [custom]

Note: Ammdon and Jurnamoria are two worlds in neighboring star systems that had a long history of rivalry and warfare. By the time the conflict started to pull in the major powers (the Federation and the Romulans), both sides had build armadas of point-warp ships, barely capable of making one warp jump between the two systems but armed to the teeth. The system-defense ships of Ammdon were behind the newest Jurnamorian ships in technology and were usually somewhat smaller. The Emmad class cruisers were some of the most powerful at the Hylan intervention, and the Jurnamorians' pro-Romulan faction accused the Federation of supplying civilian technology at low cost to Ammdon to help construct these ships.

Jurnamorian Peace Fleet Battleship 'Tedos'

Class: Wer [custom]

Note: The Jurnamorian fleet was more advanced than that of Ammdon, although the ships still had only point-warp (non-tactical warp) systems and could barely surpass warp 1. Neither side had shield technology, transporters, or tracking systems for warp maneuvering or combat, and the primary weapons were nuclear missiles and lasers. Still, the Jurnamorians had enough Wer-class battleships (and an even larger vessel, the flagship Bor) at the crisis that led to the Hylan intervention to bombard Ammdon and handle the defenders' fleet at the same time. It is unknown how much Romulan technology was provided to Jurnamorians when the Wer-class was under construction, although it certainly did not include anything very advanced by Romulan or Federation standards.

Jurnamorian Peace Fleet Cruiser 'Gder' (formerly the Romulan ship T'Rehu's Fury, sold to the Jurnamorians)

Class: V-2 [FASA design and illustration]

Note: The Jurnamorian/Ammdon conflict caught the attention of the Romulan Star Empire, which saw an opportunity to use it to gain a foothold in the region. The Romulans secretly began supporting a faction of the Jurnamorian government which advocated conquest of Ammdon; when Ammdon in turn began making overtures to the Federation for protection this almost led to a proxy war in which each major power provided technology to the side that favored it. Fortunately, the Hylan intervention brought about by the USS Enterprise prevented an all-out war, but not before the Jurnamorian fleet had purchased several obselete Romulan hulls (stripped of weapons, shields, or cloaking devices but still far in advance of anything that could be built locally). The Gder, a downgraded V-2 cruiser, would have swung the balance of power against Ammdon unless the Federation had either intervened directly or sold equivalent ships to Ammdon (which had requested both in fear of the Jurnamorians). Ultimately, Ammdon did acquire a former Federation Provence-class cruiser and several obselete scouts and armed transports, but by the time any of these ships were ready the crisis had passed. The Gder was used for defensive patrols, but gradually became inoperable due to lack of spare parts, and after 12 years was disassembled to reveal any technological hints that would be useful in the next generation of locally-built starships.

Vendorian defense cruiser "Hidden Form" (A Romulan V-3 "warbird" cruiser captured by shapeshifting Vendorian agents)

Class: V-3 [Star Fleet Battles "warbird", similar to but smaller than the FASA V-8 "Bird of Prey"]

Note: The Vendorians are shapeshifters, with an apparent original form as a radial, multi-tentacled being. Situated on the Romulan border and not trusted by the Federation, the Vendorians defend themselves from Romulan attempts at expansion by cunning and infiltration. Several Romulan ships including a U-21 cruiser, a V-2 cruiser, a V-3 cruiser (described here) and several S-3 scouts have been captured in various operations. The V-3 was an old but versatile design built to incorporate lessons from the Romulan War with the Federation. Its basic shape was similar to the U-13 and the later, much larger V-8 "Bird of Prey" (one of which was destroyed by Captain Kirk and the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 in a famous incident). The V-3 captured by the Vedorians and renamed the "Hidden Form" was taken after it had been refitted by the Romulans with improved weapons and a veiling device (a primitive stealth system that could 'blur' but not conceal the position of a ship to enemy visual and targeting sensors). The ship was near the Gorn border, and the Vendorian agents simulated a distress message implicating the Gorns in the destruction of the ship. The "Hidden Form" was mainly used for system defense by the Vendorians, as its point-warp drive limited its usefulness in interstellar combat.

Tzenkethi Strike Fleet cruiser 'Poison Quill' (a Klingon-built D-9 survey cruiser, sold off after it became obselete)

Class: Upgraded D-9 [FASA design]

Note: The Tzenkethi purchased several obselete ships fron the Klingons to gain weapons technology and experience in operating large starships (most of their home-built ships were small attack craft until hostile relations with the Federation spurred them to build up the strength of their fleet). Although the D-9 was considered weak by the Klingons, it was still a first-rate starship in its time; suitably upgraded with Orion-acquired weapons and more efficient power couplings the 'Poison Quill' and its sister-ship, plus several D-4 cruisers, formed a long-range strike force capable of threatening poorly-defended neighbors. During a period of conflict between the Tzenkethi and the Federation, The 'Poison Quill' was chased down by a Federation Centaur-class frigate (the USS Garuda) and badly damaged, and was apparently never returned to service because more modern Tzenkethi-built ships could replace it.

Tzenkethi Strike Fleet frigate 'Skilled Bleedout'

Class: Rezzratkh [custom design]

Note: One of several Tzenketh-designed ship classes added to their fleet as the Tzenkethi accelerated their arms buildup in the face of tensions with the Federation and Cardassians. The Rezzratkh was a maneuverable and lethal ship, with a combat power considered comparable to the Federation Chandley-class frigate of the Khitomer Accords/Tomed Incident era. Although not a match for the cutting-edge Starfleet cruisers, the Tzenkethi managed to hold their own against all enemies with ships such as these, backed up by older fast-attack ships and larger warships purchased from the Klingons.

M'Dok assault ship 'Ripping fang' (a Klingon-built T-3 assault ship, sold off after it became obselete)

Class: T-3 [FASA design]

Note: The M'Dok purchased three of these ships to bolster their small home-built fleet of battlecruisers and escorts; although the T-3 was obselete and had all been retired by the Klingon Deep Space Fleet even before the Khitomer Accords, its troop-carrying capacity and large number of transporters made it well-suited to plans of the expansionist M'Dok. These ships were used to conquer several neighboring planets and two were still in use (the third having been cannibalized to keep the others in service) when the M'Dok were confronted by Starfleet ships including Captain Picard's USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D.

Nod-Adrava Corporation Export Destroyer

Class: REKO-112G
Mass: 20,000 tons
Speed: Warp 6
Armament: various, depends on purchaser

Note: This is a common destroyer design seen across the Delta quadrant. It is fairly weak but cheap to maintain, and a good buy for worlds unable to construct their own defensive starships. Weapons and other systems are dependent on the wishes of the purchaser.

General Note: Names of alien starships are approximate translations.

"Star Trek" is of course created by Gene Roddenberry and owned by Paramount. "FASA" refers to the FASA corporation's Star Trek role-playing game from the early 1980's (when the second and third movies were popular). FASA's writers and artists developed a starship combat system and a series of excellent miniatures. The company lost the Trek license right after the Next Generation series began. Some of their 'historical' information was based on a book called the Starflight Chronology. "Star Fleet Battles" is another, more complex game system which was based only on the 1960s series with a universe developed before the movies. It included simpler miniatures, but nice Gorn and Tholian ships and some alternate species. Although FASA miniatures became scarce, MicroMachines (Galoob) took up some of the slack up until the start of the Voyager series and the Dominion War on DS9, when that toy line unfortunately also discontinued making Star Trek ships.
