Welcome to our Dickens Village Web Site!

Glad you dropped in! Hope you'll stay awhile!

Art and I are relatively new to collecting D56, namely Dickens Village. I contacted "Porcelain Fever" in Nov. 1996 and immediately gave it to my husband! To date we have over 80 lit pieces, more than 400 trees and numerous accessories e.g. people, landscaping materials, animals, fences, bridges, etc. I just love trees! A Village collector can never have enough!

It is a well-known fact that if you touch these little lit houses, you will indeed be bitten by the bug to own one or many! *big grin* My husband and I both have English heritage, so this drew me to Department 56's Dickens Village [like a moth to a flame], me having the addictive "A" personality in the family. I hope you will enjoy browsing through our display pages. Many new-found friends share our love of Department 56 Villages. With their permission I will be adding pictures of their displays to this web site.

Dickens Village:

Boarding and Lodging

Dedlock Arms and Boarding & Lodging #18

In Nov. 1996, after many months of decision making, I purchased our first pieces (6 to be exact). It was fortunate that one of the Start a Tradition sets were available. Many seasoned collectors dislike the fact that Department 56 puts out sets, however, in my humble opinion, the starter sets give the new collector a jump start into the beginning of creating a Village Setting with house(s), trees, accessories, cobblestone, and "real artificial snow".

Department 56 introduced the Dickens Village in 1984, which ingeniously portrays a bustling, hearty and joyous atmosphere of Victorian England during the most festive season of all - Christmas.

Porcelain buildings and the multitude of corresponding accessories, all finely detailed, are all part of the enchantment of building a village. Some of the Dickens Village houses and accessories have been inspired by novels or characters in the Novels written by Charles Dickens, such as, Oliver Twist, the evil Fagin, Nicholas Nickleby, David Copperfield and one of the most famous - A Christmas Carol, which is a complete series within the Dickens Village called "A Christmas Carol Revisited".

Accessories enhance the village setting by playing a very important role in completing the total village look. With a little imagination anything is possible from creating a frozen pond with crumpled tin foil or an actual fountain with running water. You can access Don Elbourne's Display Guide for helpful tips for the collector of any size display.

Village Fever has caught hold for Collectors of all ages. Village pieces are available through Retailers, and Secondary Dealers. Information can be found from Newsletters and from Publications.

Within our Showcases are Display Tips you may find useful. Enjoy!
