Other Fanfiction

Egads, there's more? Yup, there sure is, and there's lots of it. This is the slush-pile of everything else I've ever written that is in some way anime-related. Most of it is either unfinished, no longer in progress, or just simply bad or bizarre. Enjoy... if you can.

A Normal Life
An Exciting Life

Chapters:

The story of two Ranmas exchanging places. Originally meant as a single fic, in which Ranma, seeking to escape the everyday chaos of his own life, finds himself living in a world where everything is simply more normal. A reader suggested the story of a Ranma swapped back into that chaotic life might be fun as well - and An Exciting Life was born. My first, only, and last attempt at writing in script-style. A dead project.

Halloween Saga Financial Responsibilities YAAH
This is it, my very first attempt at fanfiction. Heck, it had been my very first attempt at creative writing since high school. And what an attempt. This, I'm quite embarrassed to say, is a Ranma / Power Rangers crossover based around a Halloween theme. Long, silly, and bad: enjoy! A short attempt at writing introspective prose, done soon after One Bad Day. Not very successful story focussing on Nabiki. I like to think I've since gotten better at writing internal dialogue.

Yet Another Alternate History.

How many 'alternate history' stories have been written, where one minor difference in the series' past precipitates present change? This is another one. This time around, there's no engagement; do Soun and Genma even know each other? Akane and Ranma get off to the wrong foot, but she seems to get along great with the other newcomer, Ranko.

Unfinished, maybe never to be, though I've had enough positive feedback that I really ought to.

Character Sketchbook

I started this as a quick warmup one day and hoped to go somewhere with it, but never had the time. They're just quick character sketches of Ranma.

Spamfics and other stuff
Spamfics are short little pieces usually meant to be humorous, or to sample an interesting idea that you can't be bothered to fully develop. Other stuff, in this case, means little bits I wrote up as a result of occasionally being on the FFML - the fanfiction mailing list.

Round Robin
There's something strange happening at the secret Black Mesa science facility - and what's Ranma Saotome doing there? Ranma versus the alien invasion; but what strange connection does he share with the vile alien mastermind behind the attack? Written after seeing some really anal spam being flung back and forth on the FFML, complaining about improper spelling of character names and special techniques. What's in a name, when in the middle of a duel? Round Robin stories are fics written by several authors, each taking a turn at continuing the last person's efforts. Follow the adventures of Ryoga and Dave, the hammerspace cabby!
Writing challenges occasionally pop-up on the fanfiction mailing list. In a moment of weakness I tried a few out.

The SKJAM Revengefic Saga

A couple of years back, a fanfiction author called SKJAM inadvertently started a flood of stories, and a genre of fic, that came to be known as the 'Revengefics'. The characters came seeking revenge for the harms inflicted upon them by sadistic authors; before long, everyone was writing, and getting, their dues. A Freudian's dream, it eventually snowballed into a giant collaborative effort which is, I believe, years later, still being compiled. This was my contribution to the whole silly mess.

Cuts and Edits
I'm terrible at editing. Once I've written something, I hate to delete it; unfortunately sometimes it's unavoidable. However, who ever said I had to throw it away? Here's all the bits I've cut out of my more serious attempts at fanfiction writing. Probably of no interest to anyone but myself, but it does give hints as to where I may have been going with a series - or still am.

Reviews and Stuff
The fanfiction community is often an active one, providing encouragement and constructive feedback and, on occasion, detailed reviews. Here are some reviews or interesting bits that I've received that I'm quite proud of; and here's some detailed feedback that I've provided on a few stories--they took me so long to write that I don't just want to chuck them out.

Everything Else
Mother and Daughter Points Story The Taming of Akane Summer Camp Pilot

An idea I had for a fic I never fully developed. Complete outline, but only an introduction written. I still think it's a good idea, but doubt I'll ever have the opportunity (or desire) to fully develop it. If anyone is interested in expanding it, they're welcome to it - just ask.

Not really anime-based, this was a 'shared-universe' super-hero genre story initiated by a guy called Darren Steffler. It never got very far, but one bored night, I wrote my contribution to the series. Hey, I grew up comic books, it was an excuse to try writing in that style myself. Didn't get very far, though.... Remember up above when I pointed out my first attempt at fanfic writing? I may have been mistaken - I believe this pathetic little piece may have come first. Started while I was studying, appropriately enough, the Shakespeare survey course at university. Unfinished, and better for it. Another piece I wrote up in a fit of bored inspiration, but this one I actually finished. The pilot for a series I never started. Things get too hot back at home, so Ranma escapes for the summer to a camp. What kind of hijinks ensue? Who knows, I dropped the project. Someone asked to pick it up, but I haven't seen anything and it's been years, so if there are any other takers....

And that, I believe, is all of it. Wow. Most of this stuff is quite old (96-98), and, while I won't apologize for it I recognize that some of it is pretty rough stuff. The more you write the better you get, right? Hopefully, because there's no other justification for this stuff otherwise. Power Rangers indeed. . . .

Still, if you found any of this moderately entertaining, let me know!
