History Of Female Karters

Haven't you noticed that the field of Kart 64 Time Trialers is overly male dominated? What you might not know is there has been some female drivers that have not just done good, but have set some pretty awesome times. Most of them just don't get the coverage they deserve. I'm happy to say I have one female player in my profile pages, and hopefully many more to arrive!

Before I even start, remember that Peach is a driver choice, so there is a female influence right off the get go! That is the purpose of the BIG PIC!

It all started with Dave Hawk's Site. His sister, Kelly Hawk, was the first female to get their name on a site for a site record! She had some good times. She even recorded an 8 second lap on DK Jungle Parkway before the page got relocated.

The Mckowns were the topic of debate. Both Andrew and Susan Mckown had the same exact times appearing on 2 different sites! Andrew on Spirek and Susan on N64HQ, or vis versa.. I'm not sure, but you must agree that's quite interesting. Most likely one person forgot to leave a name, and the sender (not the time trialer) got credit for it!

Wendy Westman Did a bit of Kart time trialin' as well. She wasn't the best time trialer, but she did enjoy playing the game! This game is not just for one group of people, but for everyone.... anyone can learn how to play Kart, I promise! We must move past looking at the tipical Karter, and thinking we must be this way to be a Karter!

Many females have raced Mario Kart! In Most Experiences, they pick Yoshi or Peach as their favorite drivers! Most make fun of the fact that most of the males do better, but in several cases, this just isn't true! However there are interesting stories that younger people have told. In one case of a brother playing, a younger sister, the sister didn't want to play battle mode with her character, cause the character would get bruised up! I personally liked this story, but this doesn't reflect the norm... Kart is an excellent party game, and you'll find brother and sisters doing tripple plays with green shells. You'll also find couples trying to get eachother out before anyone else.

Well as you know, I'm an Elite Recruiter, and historian, so your wondering why I'm even mentioning the female element in the game! Surely there can't be any elite females out there right? Think again! Take a Jamie, from Peoria Illinos. She has a Moo Moo Time in the high 1'16's and a Mario Raceway time (under 54 seconds) that would get LAUNDA POINTS! She has several other times most likely that are excellent. She's most likely one of the worlds best players, let alone one of the best female players out there!

Kristi Casey is now the currently the only active female Karter in my profile page, and who knows, she could become the First Elite Female Karter!

WHAT IN THE WORLD???? AN UPDATE

The information that is new on female karters

2/07/01: years later

Well not much has changed, but I figure I'd show you just how much I've improved with the HTML in the last 4 years? Impressed. Anyhow, we do get female karters from time to time, but it's usually cause of another male member, and they stick with it a week tops. You have to ask yourself why there is like none that play. It's really very simple. What is it about time trials that would get them motivated? One person basically said that if a female tries something game related and fails, they usually are like... no biggie, and move on, but a male will try and try and try again til they get the desired result. It doesn't matter if what they are doing is the wrong method, but they will keep trying never the less :)

Still though, female influence in kart is greater than you think. You got the moms that buy the games for some of you, the sisters and so forth that will still play you in the other modes, and well, for those that don't play 3000+ hours like me, the gals that keep your hours down :) Anyhow, indirectly, females have been a part of the experience, even thought not always directly.

Well, I predicted we'd get some female time trialers in here that would rise to the top, but sadly, this has never happened. It just goes down to what I said above. Kristi Casey never made elite, and disappeared off the planet it seems, and the last female karter I did get on the site, was via Beau Fairbourn. Still, some last fun events I will mention below involving females and the karting experience.

1998: End of 3rd Comeback

An interesting venture for me on March 24th. I went over to a co-workers house and demonstrated to all their friends the kart shortcuts and all that. I thought it would be like whatever, but they actually enjoyed seeing the tricks. Later on, I was playing battle mode with this one girl named Eunice. Anyhow, it wasn't 5 minutes into this that after I hit her with 3 greens, she goes and hits me on the shoulder. She doesn't even know me. Well I guess she does now. Kinda funny how the site is 98% male, and yet a bonding moment can occur playing kart.

2000: The Meeting of the glitchmen

Yep, David Wonns sister plays both SMK and Kart 64, but only for fun, and for the reasons I stated above. Anyhow, she has never beaten David consistently in battle, and I knew this, so I used this to my advantage when playing those 2 in Battle Mode. Problem was, I underestimated Rebecca, and guess what. She ended up winning the first to 15 competition, but win by 2 by a score that was in the 20s! Pretty mad stuff, but another example how kart is a game that anyone can enjoy.

Well that is it. I got the pages back up, so I figured I'd update ya all. Later folks
