Optical Media International OMS-3 CD ROM SYSTEM

The OMS-3 was one of the first commercial applications of CD ROM data storage. The OMS-3 was released in 1986 with a list price of approxiamately $2,499 and was originally intended to allow Emulator II sample banks to stored on a CD-ROM. The CD-ROM provided quick load time of appx 12 seconds for a 512k banks versus the 30 seconds for a 5 1/4 floppy and the ability to store over 500 banks on one CD-ROM. The OMS-3 is comprised of the CD-ROM drive and the a wired remote controller known as the CRM-3. The OMS-3 also interfaces with the Oberheim DPX-1amd the Emu Systems Emax. Three cd roms are available for the Emulator II - 1. Universe of Sounds Volume 1, 2. Unverse of Sounds Volume 2, 3. Nothstar Gold. In total they comprise approxiamately 1500 banks. Since the DPX-1 reads EII the EII fomat, the DPX may read these three CD-ROMs.
