SOMMS is a mailing list dedicated to Soundgarden topics of conversation and was founded by Seth Perlman. The biggest difference with this mailing list when compared to others is the strictness in certain rules, but also the agreement that SG are a band with intelligent and interesting fans of all reaches of life. This directory is a part of this page set up for fellow SOMMSters to view the biographies of their list mates, as well as to keep the interest up in the list. As time goes by, there's definitely less to talk about... if you are not a member, and have stumbled across this page (you certainly must like Soundgarden!), you can join the mailing list by taking yourself to the SOMMS page of the Unofficial Soundgarden Homepage, and follow the instructions. But as a warning to newbies, watch and learn for a little while. Trust me.
You mention ICQ and IRC, what are they?
ICQ and IRC are both chat programs commonly used by net users; even Soundgarden fans. ICQ's homepage is http://www.mirabilis.com and you can download it from the site and find out more about it. It's an excellent program if you are into chatting online, and I highly recommend it. IRC is not so straightforward as ICQ is. You need to download one of the many programs; mIRC, vIRC, pIRCh.. etc.. and find a server to connect to. Once you're connected, you join something called a channel. Apparently a channel called #SOMMS used to be quite active, but not so much anymore. IRC is as intricate as you make it. Once you get the hang of it, you can use colours, special pop-up menus, and maybe even make your own bot.
How can I be on the directory if I am already a SOMMSter?
Note: the information is current at approximately February 1998. ie. if the person states they are 17, they were 17 when they submitted their information, not necessarily at the moment. Updates can be made.
