Alot of DMB fans were disappointed in this concert, They wanted "Crash into Me" and didn't get it. Why the Dave Matthews Band choose not to play it is beyond me. Was it because they play it so often they're getting sick of it, or is it that they don't want to be known as the Band people like only because they play "Crash into Me". Other Then that this was a good Concert, Being a DMB fan I was Happy with the songs they did play (though I would've liked to hear "Crash into Me" also). The set included many songs they didn't play the last time I saw them, In fact only about 6 of them out of the 14 song set were played the last time they were at the Gund Area. The music was good but Dave didn't speak much to the crowd except for saying "Thank you" between almost every song. As far as music goes, It was Great. The Crowd went nuts Everytime Boyd or Leroi soloed! "One Sweet World" featured an intro that was so long I thought it was a new song. The 13 minute version of "lie in our graves" was good. A real Surprise was "Help Myself" (from the Scream 2 soundtrack), It was the first time I'd heard it (Needless to say I bought that CD the next day). They did A Johnny Cash song called "Long Black Veil", I've never heard the original but I'm sure DMB's version is about as different from the original as their version "Watchtower" is from Dylan's original! "Jimi Thing" actually featured Dave playing A guitar solo, I'm sure he's done it before but that's the first time I've seen or heard him play one! As always, The crowd went nuts for their last song "Ants Marching" which is always a Great way to end a Live Show. The encore was a disappointment, though "Two Step" is one of my favorites, it just wasn't the way to end the concert. Plus Only one encore song???!!? Oh well, I'm sure they were tired. I'm not complaining though, the concert was good, and plan to see them everytime they come around here.
DMB Setlist: Warehouse, Tripping Billies, One Sweet World, Too Much, Lay Down Lover,
Lie in our Graves, Satellite, Help Myself, Crush, Don't Drink the Water, Long Black Veil (Johnny Cash Cover), Jimi Thing, Ants Marching, Encore: Two Step
Santana with Ozomatli 6/13/99 At Blossom Music Center (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio)
I didn't know what to expect at this show, i was was thinking there was gonna be nothing but old classic rock fans. I was WRONG! It was young rock fans. When Ozomatli started, they were in the back of the pavillian (y'all who never been to Blossom probably don't know what the hell i'm talkin' 'bout) in a drum circle! Then worked their way to the stage like a parade! very Cool! i've never seen an opening band get a response like they did! their 9 song set had most of the place goin' insane! As their set was ending they walked off the stage like a parade again, but this time headed out to the lawn to party with the rest of the concert goers (They even had everyone singing the "Sesame Street Theme") I even got to meet Asdru Sierra, Ulises Bella, Charli 2na, Wil-Dog and William Marrufo (I got Autogaphs!). Before you knew it, Satana was on Stage! Join By The Ozomatli Horns section on "Da Le Yaleo" then "Everybody's Everything". Alot of Santana's set was songs i've never heard, including lots of music from the new album "Supernatrual" released 2 days after that concert. When they played "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va" the crowd went nuts! The show came to a close with a bangin' version of "Jingo". It was 25 bucks and worth every Penny!
Ozomatli setlist: Intro, Como Ves, Cut Chemist Suite, Cumbia De Los Muertos, O Le Le, Divedo, Chango, new song, Super Bowl Sundae, La Misma Cancion, Outro
Santana setlist: Da Le Yaleo (with Ozomatli Horns), Everybody's Everything (with Ozomatli Horns), It's Alright, The Calling, Instrumental?, Maria Maria (with Charli 2na of Ozomatli), Europa, I Want You, Dance in the Moonlight, Instramental?, ???, Drum Solo, Wings of Grace, Make Somebody Happy, Instamental, Bass Solo, Encore: Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Beano Nocha Qui, Smooth, Jingo-ba![]()
My Concert Tickets sigened by Ozomatli!"Funk + Folk = The F-Word Tour" Ani Difranco with Maceo Parker and DJ Courtney 6/23/99 At Nautica Stage (Cleveland, Ohio)
It's about fuckin' time I seen Ani! I love her! So you should get the idea that her concert is gonna get a good review! And it should, godamnit! first of all Maceo Parker was Awesome, The Legendary Funk sideman paid tribute to James Brown, George Clinton, Wilson Picket, Ray Charles and Ani Difranco Joined him on Sly and the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song". He got one best responds I've ever seen for an opener! Now, On to Ani! the first song she did was "Virtue" one of my least favorite song in the Ani Catalog until I heard it live with a Maceo Parker sax Solo ending it! Then Ani proclaimed "I could just die now!" as she went into great FULL BAND version of "Both Hands"! Occasionally she would make comments about the ugly scenery around Nautica stage and do impressions of the boats going up and down river behind her.
Later she was doing a solo version of "swan dive" when a guitar string broke, She then screamed "THIS SUCKS!" and threw the guitar to side of the stage and instantly went into "Coming Up"!
She then started to forget the words but she goofed off enough that nobody really minded.
For "The Diner" she was joined by D.J. Courtney (who was spinning joints in between sets) and Maceo Parker's son, Rapper, Corey Parker! the encore was a new song called "To The Teeth", a very passionate look at the Columbine shooting and America in general, where she stated that she should take all the people she cares about and "move to canada, were they can grow old".
Basically if this isn't the best concert i've ever been to, it's damn near close! Nuff Said!!
Ani Difranco Setlist: Virtue (featuring Maceo Parker), Both Hands, Two Little Girls, Cloud Blood, Shy, Going Once, Letter to A John, My I.Q., Hello Birmingham, Angry Anymore, Swan Dive, Coming Up, Not So Soft, Shameless (featuring Greg Boyar), Anticipate, The Diner (featuring DJ Courtney and Corey Parker), Jukebox, Encore: To The Teeth
The Vans Warped Tour 7/15/99 at Nautica Stage (Cleveland, Ohio)
Ok, this is a hard concert to review, but i'm tryin'. First of all, there is no way i can tell you about ALL the bands here, There was 6 stages, most going all at once! The first and second stage was the main stage split into two. So the bands can go on right after the one before goes off. But we'll get back to that. First the Concorse! It featured A Yohoo stand that gave away free yohoo all day (yum). An internet stand that was full of computers, where i was able to take my picture and email it to myself (that's how I got my picture there). Ducan yo-yo had a stand where they had concests and gave alway free shit, in fact a girl won the contest because when she jumped the judges liked the way she jiggled. All of the stands gave away free shit, I got six cassette samplers, three magizines, and one full length Cd from the Tommyboy stand, It was Defari's "Focused Daily" ( I've been planning to buy that for months! They just saved me 15 chunks of my hard earned Cheese! WOO-HOO). They had an Anti-Racism Stand that sold a shirt that had Hitler with his brains blown out that says "Follow your Leader". They had a Half-pipe with professional skaters, it was a great idea but I'm sorry to say I only wanted to see a bloody fall! But all the staters know how to fall without hurting themselves. That's cool. Ok, Now for the music! Zebrahead goofed off making them alot of fun to watch, They said that Lit is on the tour but not at this date so they did Lit's hit song "My own worst enemy". The Vandals did a good set, they did a punk version of a song from "Grease" (?!), it was good though, they also did a punk version of the hip hop classic Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back"! Suicidal Tendencies did an eary set (taking the place of Molotov for some reason) it was a great set and it was mostly in spanish. The Volcol stage (stage hmmm..5) featured a band called My Superhero, They were sort of a light punk-ska band, they did a version of the sixies classic "Groovy kind of Love" Claiming Phil Collins stole it from the original artist, "so we're stealing it back for them!". Suicidal Tendencies were back on the second stage for the second time by the time I got back to the main stage! this set featured many songs from their latest Cd "Freedumb", A huge fan of them, Who was in a wheelchair, was up front being lifted up by the crowd. When the Singer saw him, he said "Bring him up boys", so Kevin got to watch the rest of the show from the stage! lucky guy! Ice T was one of the reasons I went to this concert, What kind of the hip hop head would pass up a chance to see a hip hop lengend like Ice T?! He was definately a highlight of the day! His set included many tracks from his newest CD "7th sin" he also brought up his biggest fan to jam with him on "O.G. Original Gangsta"! He also did "There Goes The Neigborhood" from Bodycount's first CD! At one point He asked A fan how long they've been fan, and the fan revealed that he was only 15 years old, Ice T replied that he'd been makin records for 14 years, "You mean to tell me that you had an Ice T record under your pillow when you were one year old, talkin to your Mom sayin, Mom I'm hungry! Gimmie some Titty Bitch!!". He gave props to the history of punk and the history of hip hop and Annonced that his name is no longer "Ice Mutha Fuckin T, It's now Ice Mutha Fuckin T, BITCH!" The only question I have, is why didn't he do the classic "6 in the morin"? oh well. The Black Eyed Peas were really THE reason I went to this show, But when they came out playin the song "Movement" they were sounding kinda weak. That soon ended! by the time they got to "Que Dices" they were rockin the whole fuckin place. At one point the Security Guards musta figured that they didn't need to catch any crowd surfers so they got some chairs and sat down. But Taboo jumped off the stage and made them! so needless to say, there was a bunch of pissed off Security Guards for the rest of Their show. It was funny! Royal Crown Revue was next, I didn't get to watch them play because I was Meeting Will-I-Am of the Black Eyed Peas, But I could hear them play their Hit from the movie "The Mask" called "Hey Pachuco". H2O was pretty good, They played the Dead Kennidy's Song "Nazi punks Fuck off". A Fight broke out while they were on stage, The singer stopped the song they were on and decided to bitch out the idiots for fighting! "thought the warped tour was above that!" He said. To end their set , They played Black Sabbith's "War Pigs" with the help of some little kid. Less than Jake was good, They Have an awesome stage show, that includes a Dancing Reaper, A Dancing Monkey and guys with Water guns. Eminem was not so great, well he was alright except he did the same exact show he did on his solo tour, I felt ripped off. He should've done some of the new songs that he's recorded since then like "Any Man" or "Get you Mad". Blink 182 came out and annonced that " The more Boobs we see, The Better we'll play" very funny. But no boobs (Yeah I was disappointed too). Sevendust was the Headliner, surprisingly alot of people were leaving when they came on. They were Previewing new songs from there up-coming album "Home" MORE TO COME!
