Hi folks, welcome to my little movie page. I think i have to show you something interesting.
I know what everyone of you wants: A STANDALONE DVD Player capable of playing MPEG-4 or letīs say DivX ;-)
Unfortunately there is no one available around on the market at the moment
I have heared that YAMAKAWA plans one but when this will ever be come true,
it will first be released in 2002 AND ... my idea is that they will NEVER be able to play .AVI files
because itīs a file format created by M$, not a standard like MPG
and so on, if they will really bring out one, then perhaps in 2002 no one of us is making DivX ;-) anymore,
we will then create WMV8, OpenDivx or something else.... (who knows)
Because compression technology is going better and better

But the technology is already here....

I offer you in my project a Standalone HIFI Player, which will be upgradeable to any future file formats

How I came to start this project ?

Well i have an Athlon @ 1 Ghz and i love DivX very much and loved it
to watch them on my tv, since my Geforce had a TV-Out.
But i got MAD!!! I looked around at divx-digest.com to find a Player
which has a "GOOD" ability to control a AVI File with a keyboard
since i got a infrared keyboard and could so control the movie from my bed

But unfortunatelly i didnīt find a good one!

So i decided to write something myself. I wouldnīt call it a player. Itīs even more!!
So please call it an OS (Operating System) for Hardware Players

My project configuration ( i prefer them ):

Get yourself a Hifi desktop PC Case from the guys from www.pc-gehaeuse.com
For example this one you see here
If you know another case with similar look or even smaller or better than my,
so please let me know... and where to get it!
Now you need enough CPU power: A Duron 800 should do this job very well and is very, very cheap now!
Look if you can get an Epox mainboard because they are the only one i know
which have the great feature "Power on keyboard"...., but later more (and sound on board)
i think 64 Mb sdram is ok for this project
an old cd-rom drive 4x should do this job very well (optional you could choose a dvd drive)
i prefer a Matrox G450 DH, because of the DVDMAX feature and itīs high quality TV OUT
an old IDE HardDisk with about 400 MB should do the job fine
An IR Receiver connected to the Keyboard port
and either an IR Keyboard or better the VISA Remote Control

Now youīve got all you need. I would prefer to install win98 on that hdd
Now install everything you need (display driver, divx driver, the filters.....)
and place my DivX OS in the Autostart
Thatīs all!!

Now if youīve bought yourself a programmable remote control, now you have to learn it the keys

What my DivX Operating System does....

After placing the exe in the autostart, the PC will boot up and it starts directly my prog.
DivXOS was so programmed, that all the features of a VCR or DVD Player can be done with a Keyboard/Infrared Remote Control
now here are the key mappings

' o opens the CD Drive
---> map this to the OPEN/CLOSE key of the IR
' c stops the movie
---> map this to the STOP key of the IR
' v returns to the beginning of the movie
---> map this to the 0 key of the IR
' b pause (push again and it continues)
---> map this to the PAUSE key of the IR
' n 10 seconds back (or if in pause mode one picture back)
---> map this to the REWIND key of the IR
' m 10 seconds forward (or if in pause mode one picture forward)
---> map this to the FORWARD key of the IR
' q exitīs OS and returns to windows
---> you donīt have to map this key, this is only for you to exit the OS
' l increases the Volume
---> map this to the VOLUME UP key of the IR
' k decreases the Volume
---> map this to the VOLUME DOWN key of the IR
' ^ (the key mostly left to the 1 and above tab), exits win, shuts down pc completly and powers off
---> map this to the POWER key of the IR
' a slows down playback speed
---> map this to the LEFT KEY of the IR
' s fastens the playback speed
---> map this to the RIGHT KEY or the IR
also map the UP and DOWN cursors to the UP and DOWN of the IR
map the 1 to 9 key to the IR
and map the RETURN KEY to the PLAY key of the IR

now you are ready.
now you can power on your (HIFI Desktop) PC with the Remote Controller (if you have a mainboard with PowerOnKeyboard like Epox), and as soon as it
started (the screen is black on the G450 until windows starts) it launches my OS!
with the POWER button on your REMOTE CONTROL you can turn off your self-made player.

Special features of my DivX OS:

*all features fully keyboard controlable
*no silly gui, which awaits mouse controls like all other PLAYERS...
*has ability to force pc to shut down
*has ability to the auto recognize your cdrom(s)
*scanīs all your cd-roms
*allows modifying playback speed (even on MP3 files !!!!!)
*plays AVI,MPG (even MPEG-2 if you have the filters installed),VCD,XVCD,SVCD and MP3
*doesnīt need any special software (eg. you must have at least MS-VB 6.0 Runtime installed)Get the Runtime here...
*the logoīs i use, i got from www.divx-digest.com (thankīs to them)

Future plans:

*Add support for more file formats....
*More features....
*More features for the Matrox G450 with DVDMAX support
*Add support to control and access even RealMedia Files, eg. Realplayer 8

Known limitations:
If you have (and i am sure you have) the divx_c32.ax DirectShow filter installed, one picture forward in Pause mode is not available on some graphic cards.
It works good on a matrox g450 dh, but on Nvidia Cards you have to de-install the divx DirectShow filter.
this is NOT A BUG of my prog. You have to de-install (regsvr32 /u divx_c32.ax) this filter if you want the picture forward/backward feature
i hope somebody knows a why this happens on some graphic cards, because the filter is good and offes better quality of the DivX movies.

PLEASE......

I wantīt to hear from you all, what you think about my Project, my OS and what you think i should add to the OS (player) features
please email me at (NEW EMAIL ADDY!!!) mydevelopment@yahoo.de with all your comments, bugs and future plans.
Downloadsection of DivxOS (it seems sometimes that the links is broken, so just try again later...)

*added support for MP3 and Video CD's (you can even change playback Speed ;-)
*new key "o" for ejecting the CD
*recognizes now when you eject/insert a cd
*added a matrox mode for 20% more playback speed on a matrox DualHead DVDMAX
to use this feature add the following command line paramater "-matrox"
*does now recursive subdirectory scan
*autoplays if only one media is found, for example 1 AVI file or a VideoCD with 1 track
*Now comes bundled with the FHG MP3 DirectShow filter
if MP3 playback does not work on your system, copy the filter to your Windows System directory
and register it with "regsvr32 l3codecx.ax"
*Should now work on any Windows Platform (be sure to proper install as described in the readme file!!!!)
*Added support for AudioCDīs and WAVE Files (you can speed control them ;-)
*Added an allscandrives feature, to list the files from all logical drives, too!
to use this feature add the following command line parameter "-alldrives"
*You can now do more position controls with 1-9 keys.
1 brings you to the very beginning, while 5 brings you to the middle and while 9 brings you near the end

Finally a Forum added
DivxOS Forum
Well on 13 and 14 of November i have my final examination as software developer!
I need much luck on this, because the questions are sometimes very silly ;-)
So i hope i will do well, then i will have time to continue developing
I also added a VERY EARLY ALPHA!! version of the new coming divx 1.04 with DVD-support.
