Welcome To High Tech

This is a basic tutorial with some ideas on how to get that dark, dank techie look that is so popular today in media. There are many things you can do to get this effect and here I will show you a few ideas to get you started.

I started off with an image of a piano from a contest. Pretty plain and sorta boring.

The first thing I did was add some wind. I used the settings from the Image, Deformations menu Wind. I used a strength of 3 from the left.
Next I rotated the image by 45 degrees. To do this go to the Image menu and Choose Rotate, select the free option and type in 45 degrees.
Next from the Image menu I chose Blinds. Set the width at 2 and the opacity at 60%. Use black as the blinds color and for mine I chose horizontal.
Now with the Shapes selection tool set at Recatangle I selected a bottom portion of the image. Go to the Colors menu and chose Inverse.
Now go to the Colors menu and choose Adjust Brightness/Contast. Lower the brightness and contrast to your taste, keeping in mind that the effect you want is very dark.

Last for that strange splash effect I used the Shapes selection tool set at Ellipse. I selected a chosen area and then went to the Image menu and chose Deformations, Spiky Halo.

The Horizontal and Vertical offset were set at zero, the Radius was set at 1, and the Amplitude and Frequency were set at 10.
