Tel Aviv in the year 2001

the paintings of Sali Ariel

Jerusalem is, of course, the focus of politics, the Intifada, and the attention of the world's media. In the midst of this period of Israel's struggle, the metropolis of Tel Aviv is thriving, growing, and changing.

Until recently it was a Mediterranean town of white buildings and tree-lined streets and boulevards. But, almost unnoticed, a new Tel Aviv of skyscrapers and post-modern towers is now rising above it.

Sali Ariel, an artist living in TA has devoted 2001 to capturing this moment in the history of the Jewish state . Ariel's Tel Aviv paintings are small, intimate canvases which capture the look and feel of this Jewish city by the sea at this turning point in its history.
