Which version to get
I'm keeping two different versions now. Version 1.0.1 is the stable release,
and should be preferred. Version 1.1.0 is the development release, and
you should try it if you're having problems to connect with the calculator.
Note that not all new features of the development release are working properly,
so be sure to check the README file.
Mirrors
HPTalx now is hosted at sourceforge.
There you can find older releases, and get the newest code by CVS.
You can also download it from hpcalc, in
this section.
HPTalx 1.0.1
Introduction
HPTalx is a HP48/49 calculator to PC communication program for Linux. It's
released under GPL.
This is the stable release.
Requisites
HPTalx is a frontend to C-Kermit. You should get version 7.0 (all tests
were performed with Beta 11) in C-Kermit's
own site.
HPTalx is written using GTK+ library. You should get version 1.2
(or risk with 1.0) in gtk.org.
You also should have libutil. I'm not sure, but it seems that
libutil is not provided with libc5. I believe you can get libutil somewhere
(thanks for any info here) and use it with libc5.
Screenshot
You can see a screenshot here (640x480, 82kb).
Features
Here they are:
-
Multiple file selection/transfer
-
HP49G ROM upgrade (code by Mathias Bunte)
-
Transfer type (binary/ascii/auto) option
-
Left click menu
-
Backup/restore memory
-
File utilities
-
and more...
Version 1.0.1 has several bug fixes.
Download
You can get it here (you may get a file
error when you unpack, and this is cause by Geocities; do not worry, it'll
work fine) or in hpcalc.org. File
size: only 42kb!

If you want to use XModem or the ROM upload, you need stty (part of the
sh-utils GNU package, get it at your closest GNU repository); versions 1.6
and 2.0 are OK. You also need the lrzsz package; version 0.11 didn't work
properly here, but you may give it a try; since it's quite old, the best is
to upgrade to 0.12.20, which I tested successfully:
http://www.ohse.de
stty, lsx and lrx must be in PATH. Note that HPTalx will run without
them,
only unable to do ROM uploads and without xmodem support.
New Features
-
XModem server support (HP49G)
-
XModem file transfers (both)
-
Support unpackers
-
Some bug fixes
-
Kermit strictly for transfers
Note that not all the new features may be fully implemented of working.
Download
You can get it here (you may get a file
error when you unpack, and this is cause by Geocities; do not worry, it'll
work fine). File size: 51kb.
