Solar Powered LCD Name Tags
These inexpensive name tags are powered by a solar cell, a single 74HC240 inverter chip, and a few resistors and capacitors. The '240 is configured as a "Suspended Bicore".

So far I have built two of them -- one powered by a tiny calculator solar cell for my friend Alec, and a more advanced model that flashes my first and last name. Thanks to Ian Bernstein and Wilf Rigter for the circuits!

If you'd like more information on how to build them, go to my LCD name tags page!

Approximate parts cost for each name tag: $7.00 US

My first name tag, a gift for my Step Grandson Alec

This name tag is based on a more complex (and more functional) circuit designed by Wilf Rigter
