Biodiversity can be manifested in many shapes and forms. It is viewed from many angles by the layperson, and can be studied at many levels (ecosystem, organism and genes) by the scientist. Despite the apparent vastness of biological life on this planet, biodiversity is finite, and thus an understanding and cataloguing of this natural wealth remain vital tasks for human society. This is because more and more biodiversity is vanishing too quickly before our very eyes! With better, faster and more reliable technologies and theory to direct our efforts, intensive and extensive studies of molecular biodiversity are being implemented. This course intends to be one possible starting point for students interested in this endeavor.

This page is a forum for participants, before and after the course. Once registered, students will have the opportunity to post useful data, suggestions, links and other ideas which are relevant to the objectives of this course. Data can be sent via my email or posted on the bulletin boards.

Registration - Non-refundable deposits should be sent to Jill Sunderland at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, 5600 US 1 North, Ft. Pierce, FL 34946.

Logistics - The course will begin on the campus of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution (HBOI) in Ft. Pierce, FL on Monday July 7, 2003. Students will provide their own transportation to Florida. HBOI is
