Hector's Beaked Whale - Mesoplodon hectori

It is known only by one skeleton and four skulls.  They have never been seen alive.  They have only been seen by a few alive and dead strandings.  The live strandings have never lived.  The Hector's Beaked Whale is dark brown to gray above and lighter below.  They have a short beak.  The teeth only in males are flattened triangles at the tip of the upper jaw.  The female grows to 4.43m or 14.5'.  The males grow to 3.9m or 12.79'. 1
