species: Lagothrix
lagotricha
This monkey lives in large groups that
split up to feed. During the day, it moves from one tree
to the next in search of fruit and leaves. It hangs by
its tail to reach food it cannot get with its hands. The
woolly monkey does not come out of the trees often, but
when it does, it walks in an upright position.
The gestation period lasts about five
months, after which time a single offspring is
born.
The woolly monkey has a flexible,
prehensile tail that it can use like an extra hand to
hold objects. Its body is covered with a thick,
gray-brown coat. Its head is large and round and its face
is hairless. The woolly monkey has long arms and
legs.
