William C. Ray was born around 1800 in the state of North Carolina. The first known record of him in Georgia is a deed for 28 acres of land on the north fork of Beaverdam Creek, in Elbert County. He died on April 15, 1879 in Hart County, Georgia.

William's first wife was Peggy (?). She was also born in North Carolina. This is PROBABLY be Peggy Walsh (or Welch). There is a marriage bond recorded in Wilkes County, North Carolina for a William Ray and Peggey Walsh. It is uncertain if this is indeed William C. Ray.
His second wife was Jane E. Tenant. They were married in Hart County, Georgia on January 9, 1873.
